3.9, 169/173 (2 year gap)

Postby hulahoop » Sun Oct 31, 2010 3:35 pm

I graduated a year ago with a Political Science BA from UC Berkeley and an LSAC GPA of 3.9. Have been working in a somewhat unusual job for the last year (military housing), which is the topic of my PS. Took the LSAT in June 2008 originally, scored a 169, decided against lawschool for a while, then gave it another go this last October, for a 173. I would be more than happy with any of CCN, and will probably apply to HYS just for kicks, but below that I am a bit lost. If it makes any difference (and I am beginning to think it doesn't really as long as it is a top school), I will most likely not be practicing in the area where I attend school, but will be near a military base, so am hoping to get a DOD or DOJ job.

Thoughts? Where do I have a realistic shot? Any retakers out there have experience in which schools average/take higher score? Also, how do you guys think the 2 year difference between them will factor in?

Thanks!!!

You're a lock at anything below HYS. CCN is looking good and you'll likely get big scholarships at the lower T-14, but if you try and do that make sure you write the why UVa, why Penn etc to avoid getting yield protected. You're at both medians at Harvard so definitely a decent chance there too and though Yale and Stanford are unpredictable your numbers are definitely in the right ballpark and if you have military experience, that's one of the only softs that can give you a bump.

To answer other questions you had...almost everywhere takes the highest score, with the exception maybe being NYU? and the gap between the tests will not matter, as long as they're both within the last 5 years, they're both good.

Basically apply anywhere in the t-14 you see yourself going and then relax because you're certainly getting into several great schools.

Thanks for the input! So I should stop looking at my score as a 171? I always thought Harvard took the average?

Yeah, I may have been mistaken, and Harvard may average too...anyone else willing to confirm this?
