3.66/175 -ED at Columbia?

Postby polyester » Sat Oct 30, 2010 11:50 am

I don't think I can get into HYS, so should I do ED for Columbia? Columbia is pretty much my dream choice right now and I want to get into either Columbia or NYU. I was thinking that ED at Columbia would be a better decision than ED at NYU.

I'd agree. ED would give you a better shot and Columbia is harder to get into. With those numbers I don't think you should have too much trouble getting into NYU.

So should I definitely ED to Columbia?

I just would be sick to my stomach if Harvard decided for some reason to wait list me, and then accepted me or something to that effect (not that I would know about it if Columbia accepts me early enough).

Is my GPA too low for me to comfortably get into Columbia without ED?

I would not have thought so. I would have said you had a good chance at Columbia RD. Hour umd shows 85% chance - I don't think they differentiate between ED and RD but I clicked on a few of the accepted profiles and none were ED. http://www.hourumd.com/?lsat=175&gpa=3. ... o&range=no

That would leave you free to accept an offer from H, where it gives you 28% odds.

(Of course hour umd is based on a biased data sample)

You're not getting Harvard with that GPA, so I would ED at Columbia.

You're above the 25 for GPA & at the 75 for LSAT. That's a pretty good place to be for a school like Columbia, which tends to place much greater emphasis on the LSAT. I think you have a strong, strong shot for RD, especially if you get your app in soon. There is also a possibility money from MVP or even NYU. That said, if you don't mind giving up those possibilities and don't mind the thought of CLS @ sticker, go for the ED.

(I should say that HLS is not out of the question entirely, but if you don't want to feel guilty later on in life, it's worth sticking around to hear from them!)

Thank you guys.

I think I'll ED at Columbia because I feel like my chances at NYU are good without ED.
For $, I think I'd be okay with a huge student loan if I can go to Columbia.
Also, I don't think I'll get into Harvard (realistically) as my softs are just average and I'm Asian (I hear that sort of matters).
Yale and Stanford are also pretty much impossible.
