Southern Schools - GPA 3.23, LSAT 168

Post by serend1pity » Fri Oct 29, 2010 11:44 pm

Stats:
- GPA 3.23, LSAT 168
- Michigan alum
- Georgia resident
- Non-URM
- Pretty average softs.

Ideally, I'd love to practice in Atlanta. From what I've read, I compiled a tentative list of schools to apply to:

- UGA
- Emory
- Georgia State
- UVA
- Vanderbilt
- Duke

Now, I know for UVA, Vanderbilt, and Duke, I'm definitely not a strong candidate with where my stats stand right now. And as for Emory, I'd only want to attend if they offered me a significant amount of scholarship money. Right now, I'm thinking about going ahead and sending in my apps for UGA and Georgia State while holding off on my apps for the other schools until after retaking the LSAT in December.

So, here's where I need some input.

1) What are my odds for UGA and Georgia State if I apply asap with the stats that I have?
2) What are my odds for Emory (with or without money) if I apply asap with the stats that I have?
3) Would it be better to wait until after the December LSAT to apply to Emory (in the hopes of getting a stellar LSAT score :D ) even though it'd be later in the game? This actually applies to UVA, Vanderbilt, and Duke, too.
4) And, this might be a silly question, but is all of this even allowed? Could I technically apply to a few schools with this LSAT score and then later on apply to other schools with a different LSAT score, all in the same cycle?

Haha, phew. I know that's a lot, but I could really use some advice. And, oh! Any other suggestions on where I could apply would also be really appreciated. :) Thanks a bunch!

This is really dependent upon how many points you can add to that score. As it stands now, your best bet is UGA in-state (over likely a small scholarship at Emory) for employment in Atlanta. If you can boost that score to 170, you'd have a compelling case for UVA ED.

If you're registered for another LSAT administration (December), schools will not make a decision on your app until that score comes back.

Ah, I see. Could I ask them to go ahead and review my application with the score that I already have? I'm just a little nervous that delaying my application for UGA and Georgia State would put me at a disadvantage.

In at Emory and UGA for sure. I'd got to whichever one is cheaper / the one you like more. Probably WL/out at UVA, Duke, Vandy. Don't go to Georgia State.

Haha, note taken. I'm hoping Georgia State will be my safety.

I've also been looking into WUSTL. They seem to have some really nice programs. Thoughts on how I'd fare there?

In at WUSTL, but I wouldn't try to bring it down South.
