I see you are attending a "Tier 1 Public." Is Ithaca gorges this time of year?

With that GPA, you need a retake. Get above a 170, and everything except HYS and CCN is converging on a lock. Do it.
+1.

3.95 engineering + 170 is a non-trivial shot at SLS. Don't waste it.

LOL @ non-HYS grads being "employable."

Some might luck into jobs, yeah, if that's what you mean.

Dood, you're full of shit, I have it on very good authority that Penn's valedictorian managed to snag a job as a paralegal at Cravath last year.

In contrast, Cornell's was a coffee boy at Strook and NU's had his career destroyed by the SBA before he could start at Ronald and McDonald.

Dude. It's the peeps at TTT's who know it's HYS or bust more so than the peeps at HYS. HYS folks are all like: "CCNMVPBDNCG grads must get jobs right? I mean, someone has to work for V25-100!" They have no idea what it's like to have to keep it real.

Penn's valedictorian probably didn't screw up OCI with his shitty interpersonal skills.

I'm not knocking Northwestern. Hell, I'll probably be choosing between a T20 at sticker and a low T1/high T2 on scholly. I just find all this elitism quite amusing, if not ridiculously pessimistic.

What elitism? Just telling it like it is. There are no jobs and what few there are are taken by the swarm of 1000 HYS grads that get pumped out every year. It's madness.

Employable = HYS. After that it's various degrees of getting lucky.

Realism is accepting that those outside the T14 will have a harder shot at landing a job. Insanity is asserting that those outside HYS get jobs "by accident."

A friend of mine just got a Philly midlaw job out of Temple. He was no superstar. He graduated in the top quarter. He also had no connections.

If a Temple grad can get a decent job ITE, all hope is not lost for those lowly non HYS-ers.

even as an engineer? those mothers are (relatively) killing it from what i hear. i know a few below median 2Ls at ucla/usc who have pretty sweet gigs lined up. From what it looks like engineers are not going to be exposed to same hardships as the rest.

It depends on the prestige of your engineering degree, though. An engineer from a "small state college" will still get a boost, but not a huge one ITE.

You will probably not get into Vandy. You will get WL. They didn't accept below 167 this year, regardless of GPA, and the median went up to 169.

Sometimes I wonder about LSN data. Vandy has a 25th percentile of 165, so they had to accept plenty of sub-167 non-URMs. Likewise, Stanford's median is 170 but you see almost no sub-170 admits on LSN.

That's because median is not mean.

Stanford could accept 51% 170, and 49% 171 or more, its median would be 170.

Vandy could accept 26% at 165 or below, very few 166, and only 167+ for the rest.

You don't know the distribution of the population, so you can't make such predictions based on median/25/75 numbers because they could be trimodal by design at 25/50/75.

While it's true that your hypothetical distributions meet the median, practically speaking with Vandy's 25/50/75 at 165-169-170 it's almost a certainty that only slightly more than 50% of the class has a 169+, with the rest at 168-. If Vandy had that many 168-169's to spare, they would have sacrificed them to bump up their median GPA.

NO. The only thing you can infer is that 25% of the class is at 165 or below. You can't infer anything about the people between 26% and 49% without knowing distribution. They are anywhere between 166 and 169, but could ALL be 169.

This would fit the bill
