No, a little more to it than that. You just have to show that you are better than your LSAT.
how about NYU? worth applying this cycle?
Maybe, same answer as above.
or do I re-take?
If you can do better, then of course.

It's not completely unheard of for people to get in with less than 170 when accompanied with a great GPA (someone a cycle or two back got in with a 4.0/166) ; however, it's pretty rare and these are usually waitlist acceptances that come around in June. H seems to favor reverse splitters over splitters when they favor any kind of splitters at all, which, again, is not a common occurrence.

I'm not too sure about NYU.

You would be much better off either way if you could raise that LSAT a few points.

NYU takes a bunch of 3.9/168s...especially ED...HYS will be a lot tougher...S may take some if they have really good softs, look at LSN to get a better idea of your odds...

People are being a little nice. Is there no chance? Of course not. Is there a <2% chance for HYS, yes. Unless of course you've done something extremely special. NYU is a slightly better possibility with ED, but again your chances are less than stellar. You really need to take the LSAT again if you are aiming that high.

If you want HYS and want to solidify your chances at the T6, definitely retake.

Also, this is wrong, they take a few with ED. Not even a 50% chance.

Depends on who's applying.

Ya, but I think for the basis of the masses of TLS, we can conclude HYS is out. If OP had ran at the olympics I think he would have mentioned that.

You know how some people love their anonymity ... guy asked if there is a hard floor of 170, and the answer is no.

Granted he denoted that with "outright," however Patriot's post was more helpful.

I think bunch seems to imply "more than few", seeing that it can be defined as "a considerable amount".

Okay. Most likely, but not always.

Some anecdotal encouragement:

My friend's sister, an affluent Jew with average softs got into Harvard, Columbia, NYU, and Georgetown (among a few other T-14s, I believe) with a 4.1 and a 168.

So it is possible. Then again, a 4.1 is something extraordinary; a 3.9 is merely "excellent" (I am by no means knocking your GPA; I have a 3.94 myself).
