Unlikely without a 1+ years of w/e, though I have heard that the few students who do make it in without it are often the ones who are a chunk above both medians.m3taphysician wrote:I would 100% apply to Northwestern law, but I heard they don't admit students right out of undergrad.

About 5% of last year's class was straight from undergraduate school at NU law. Rumor is that these students had very high numbers & could have gone to Top 6 law schools if asked to defer for a year.

Do any of you think it would be worthwhile for me to apply to Northwestern Law out of undergrad? I feel as if my numbers don't quite make the cut to make it without work experience.
Would it be fair to say that between Penn and Northwestern, Penn is clearly the stronger school? Or is it close? Chicago is an amazing city, so if the two schools are comparable that might be a hard decision.

NU definitely holds its own in placement power despite being a bit lower ranked, but I would bet a lot of this has to do with their preference for w/e. Someone said at one point that it would suck to be one of the few people at NU without w/e when doing interviews at OCI because everybody else has w/e. That makes sense but I am not sure exactly how true it is.m3taphysician wrote:Do any of you think it would be worthwhile for me to apply to Northwestern Law out of undergrad? Earlier there was a post of the numbers for people accepted at NU that didn't have w/e and usually they were 175+, iirc.
I would say due to lack of w/e that you have a better shot at UPenn.

Penn is ranked higher & offers great connections to NYC law firms. Northwestern was this year's number one law school for placement into the nation's largest 250 law firms according to the National Law Journal's Go-To-Law-Schools annual survey.
Prof. Leitner of the Univ. of Texas law school ranks Northwestern's faculty as sixth or seventh among the nation's law schools & Penn ranks about 14th. Depends what you are seeking. If you want academia, then Yale, Stanford & Harvard and Chicago are the best options.
Northwestern's class sections are much smaller than all but Yale & Stanford among the top 14 law schools.

You won't get into NU with your numbers without WE.

I might be getting a bit specific here, but do any of you happen to know which law schools are particularly strong for Antitrust? I heard Chicago is the best.

Not sure if this is still accurate, but Chicago's reputation was/is for teaching law from an economics perspective.
I suspect that for the next three years, at least, that Chicago's law school admissions will be much more competitive as the school recently received a $10 million grant for 20 full tuition 3 year scholarships per year for next three years (60 three year full tuition scholarships in total).

3.91/171? Has a shot. That is above both medians and above the 75% GPA.whymeohgodno wrote:You won't get into NU with your numbers without WE.
Though Penn vs Northwestern is probably a battle Penn would win ITE. Though the placement difference is pretty minimal.
Apply to both and see if you get in/ get money.

Re: Chances at Top 7 + Cornell
Well now that we cleared up some of that.
IMO you are going to be in a great spot if you can score a 170+ you will be in at some T14's and some of those will be in a city so you are lookin good. Do be careful of going to a lower ranked school and planning on doing better there, that has hurt others i know.
In any case come back after an LSAT has been taken, and you can get a real idea of where you will be going! haha or just use LSN/predictor

OP with a 3.9 needs as an LSAT as possible. If its 170, Gtown and Cornell in. 171, Duke, NU, UVA, Michigan in. 172-173, NYU in. 173-175 CLS UofC in. 175 + chance at HYS. Best shot at HLS. 177+ chance at SLS and YLS.

Re: Chances at Top 7 + Cornell
lol, a 3.9 and a 170 puts him in A LOT more schools than GTOWN and cornell. He's likely in Duke, UVA, Michigan, and maybe even penn with a 3.9 170. You say crap in every thread that simply isn't true. In face a 171 could get him into NYU and a 172 will likely get him into CC.dissonance1848 wrote:OP with a 3.9 needs as an LSAT as possible. I just took PT58 and got a 169. That's my third 169 in the last month.
If I stumble and get a 169 on the LSAT, would I have a shot at Chicago/NYU if I applied ED? I would plan to take it again anyway, but just curious what you guys think.

Check out LSN for apps to NYU for people 3.9X + 169 -- like 7/9 were admitted. Since NYU is a large school and numbers driven, decisions tend to be similar for people with similar numbers, unlike say YLS or Penn. Given that, I think you'd have a decent shot at NYU w/ 169 and a much better shot were you to ED. At Chicago, things look much less promising.m3taphysician wrote:I just took PT58 and got a 169.
