Looking to apply to: Harvard (legacy), Stanford, Columbia, NYU, Chicago, UPenn, Cornell, and Yeshiva (Cardozo).
Might do ED at NYU/Columbia/Chicago...

Currently in my Junior year at a T20, Philosophy major.

LSAC GPA: 3.90 (4.0 every semester except for Fall of sophomore year)
Major GPA: 3.98
LSAT: figure a 171 (averaging around a 170-173 on practice test; taking it in December.)

ECs:
Philosophy Club - Founder & Director, highly successful club
Healing Spaces Community Service Project - Finance Director, oversaw fundraising efforts for the project and raised over $3,000 myself
College Republicans - Secretary, Elections Delegate at state convention & Treasurer
Investment Group - Analyst

I'm also an Undergraduate Affiliate of a couple of campus organizations.

Should have highly laudatory recommendations.

Thanks!

Your softs are average/good, far from great. Your GPA is great. Come back when you have taken the LSAT. 173+ in anywhere 170 probably in from 7-14 maybe ccn. I wouldnt worry till you have a LSAT score.

Anyone know how much it helps to be a legacy from Harrrrvard? Do your parents donate? (would make a large difference)

First, there's saying top 7 is meaningless its T3 T6 (T10) T14

assuming 171 but the above poster is right this is all pretty useless w/o a concrete score
Harvard: out
Stanford: definitely worth a shot totally depends on what they think of your softs
Columbia: WL/out
Chicago: In
NYU: they just got a 172 median so its hard to say WL/in
Penn: in with $ (prolly)
Cornell: in
Yeshiva: full ride +stipen

in terms of ED I'm kind of doubtful you can get into Columbia but Chicago a near definite with ED probably w/o as well, if you like NYU better than Chi that would be the place where an ED could make the difference

Why Penn and Cornell but no Michigan, Virginia. I would apply to all T14, see who gives you the most money... then go there.

Of course if you get the stated LSAt score

Assuming a 170 since you've been averaging between 170-173. Remember that you really should be averaging around 3 points above whatever you're aiming for, because it's very common for people to drop 2-3 points on test day.

Harvard (legacy) - Out
Stanford - Decent shot
Columbia - Decent shot
NYU - In
Chicago - In
UPenn - In
Cornell - In
Yeshiva (Cardozo) - In

Columbia's numbers have been cranking up so you'd probably need a 171/2+ to have a good shot even with that GPA. Your numbers are fine for Stanford but they have a very low admit rate and tend to accept people with really impressive creds - yours are good but fairly typical for these kinds of applicants.

You still aren't getting in without a 173 or better.

not interested in going to Mich because it's just too fucking cold haha. I would brave the cold for Chicago, but not Mich. i would do Cornell over Michigan because it's smaller and I feel that if I went to Cornell I would be one of the top students.

UVA is in a suburb, granted a nice suburb, but a suburb nonetheless. I would only do Cornell if I didn't get into a T6. I really want to go to LS in a city.

The money donation will help greatly, i hate to say it, but get a 171+ and i think your into HLS. People whos parents donate have gotten in with worse.

I doubt your class rank would be significantly different whether you want to UMich or Cornell.

Actually quite a lot of 3.98, 170 ~ 172 types got into HLS this past cycle [it seemed they were focusing on a higher GPA]...

Combine that with legacy/donations (which probably do play a role, even if not as much as UG) and I'd say HLS would be pretty likely.

However this is all speculative... take the LSAT first and then you'll have a much better idea

His GPA is a 3.9, not a 3.98. Assuming your LSAT score & assuming that you would be one of the top students at Cornell is not reasonable. Do you really believe that Michigan is significantly colder than Cornell ?
Although philosophy majors tend to do well on the LSAT(second highest scoring major after physics/math major), writing tends to be an issue as writing a philosophy paper is much different than writing a law school exam.

From what I have been told Harvard doesn't give legacy for graduate programs. Could be wrong.

Seems like anti-Cornell trolling. "I could do sooooo much better at Cornell because they are worse."

Thank you for clearing that up. Now that you have graduated among the top law students at Cornell, which state bars should we assume that you are passing ?

"I visited Cornell once..." and am now among the top law students.

P.S. If you attend law school, even Harvard, you do realize that you will be sitting alongside the common riffraff, don't you ?
