3.63/164 Trying to find the right school to ED

Postby williammmc » Wed Sep 08, 2010 6:38 pm

My cumulative is a 3.63 and my degree granting is a 4.03. Ive submitted an addendum to explain the discrepancy, but in the end my 3.63 is what I assume will be taken into account.

I want to ED to a relatively prestigious school, but I am not sure exactly how high I should shoot. I mainly post because I would like to know if some sort of favor is afforded to those who ED, and if my chances go up as a result that would be nice.

Right now I am considering ED to GULC. Is that too ambitious? Kind of delusional? What about GW? Any other suggestions?

I'm in a similar position. My numbers arent really good enough to ED to any of the t14. But also a little too good to waste on an ED to a school under 30 (we both have a shot at the t30). In the end I was debating between UCLA, UC HAStings, and Northwestern.. and I chose Northwestern. Here's why. I have 2 years of work experience so that goes in favor of NW. Both my numbers are at the 25% for NW. UCLA won;t like my GPA. I should be able to get into Hastings without an ED. I still debate whether its better to be safe and ED at Hastings cause I know I like the school. But again, I think I can get in w/o an ED option. For both of us, EDing to the t14+UCLA isn't realistic, but I think its worth it. If i were you I'd ED at UCLA. You have a gpa above the 25% and an LSAT right at the 25%. Thats prolly your best bet.

I see what you mean by having similar numbers, and whether or not it is realistic to shoow for t14s with those numbers. I guess my main reason for posting is that question ticking in the back of my mind... Will an ED up my chances? Will that shift around the numbers in my favor?

From what i hear only a little. The likely answer is not enough to push us over the limit. But if you have good softs or someone likes you for one reason or another, then just maybe. http://www.top-law-schools.com/early-decision-early-action.html thats the link to the schools that offer an ED option. For me, after UCLA the only other city that has a school offering ED that I'd actually want to live in is Hastings. (GW falls into the t14 category with its full-ride offer)

You have a shot at GW PT, but otherwise your targets are going to be T30-50 schools.
