Top Law Schools

So I have a bachelor's degree in economics from UGA. Right now, I am entering the first year of a masters in statistics program, also at UGA.

I guess i have a few questions:

If I apply to law school after completing some or all of my masters, is my graduate GPA considered over my undergraduate, or is a mixture of the two used, or what?

How much of an advantage is it to apply with a master's degree in a difficult field like statistics?

Where can I get a full scholarship, using the following numbers:
3.4 undergrad GPA, 176 LSAT.

My guess for first full ride is: washington university.

Grad school GPA doesn't matter at all, only your UG GPA will count.

Masters might count as a very small soft, but won't get you into any schools that your numbers wouldn't warrant.



Someone else is going to have to give you advice regarding scholarships since I'm not very knowledgeable in that area... you're a splitter though, which makes it hard to predict. I'd think you'd get some $$ from Michigan on downwards, but not sure about a full scholly.

Thanks for the info on grad school, I didn't realize that grad school wasn't factored in. I suppose that's because USNWR doesn't use that so the schools don't care about it as much?

I'm already going to have some debt from my master's program, and I don't really feel like taking much more on. I'd rather go to a really good school on a full ride than a great school taking out more debt.

A question: is the $$$ number under your LSN link how much financial aid the student got? And if so, is there a list of tuition for each school anywhere so that I can see what a full ride would be?

What do you consider to be a "full ride" ? Scholarships to law school are different than those for undergraduate or PhD. study. I don't know of any law schools that award full rides. The most that I know of are full tuition & fees with books, although one poster did indicate that he was also offered a housing, but not board, allowance but a housing allowance is not common.
P.S. Your graduate degree will not be ignored in the admissions process, but the primary factor is your LSAT score, followed by your undergraduate GPA.

You may encounter a hesitenacy from some non-top 14 law schools to immediately admit you with a full tuition & fees merit award because of your high LSAT that makes you a very strong candidate for most top 14 law schools & unlikely to attend a lower ranked law school. You will need to be convincing on each law school application to non-top 20s that you are serious about matriculating to that school if offered admission with substantial merit money. You may be waitlisted at lower ranked schools with a 176 LSAT.
Why are you applying to law school instead of an MBA program with a graduate degree in statistics that may be wasted in the legal field but highly sought after by marketing research departments ? Doesn't Coca-Cola & other Fortune 100 companies pursue marketing research & statistics graduate students from the Univ. of Georgia ? (I believe that Georgia created the "marketing research" graduate degree a few decades ago, but now has competitors.)

Have you considered Early Decision at GW? GW's ED admits all receive a full tuition scholarship, and your LSAT makes you competitive for this award. That said, applying ED is binding upon acceptance, so should you apply you must be completely sure you are choosing no debt over everything else.

Also, GW seems to be pretty generous with scholarship money should you choose to apply Regular Decision, but a full-ride seems unlikely without ED.

Wouldn't count on Michigan; they didn't really like splitters this cycle. Especially those who applied after January 1.
