If not flame, then good odds at all of T6 including Y. I'm assuming on your applications you're going to identify as Mexican and write a DS (if you don't express your diversity enough in your PS). Good luck.

I'm a Mexican/white male from a big state university. I am graduating a year early due to AP credits (I know some schools might view my age as a sign of a lack of maturity, so just mentioning it in case it does indeed prove a drawback). I have some interesting work and volunteer experience in Latin America (won't get into specifics for now), and I'm wondering how I might fare in applying to YHSCCN (hopefully I've got my abbreviations right ).

Thanks in advance!

You're looking at acceptances from likely CCN on down, and good shots at H and S. Y is anyone's guess.

I'll be applying as both white and Mexican, and yes, I'll definitely be writing a diversity statement.

By the way, should a diversity statement focus only on my URM/Mexican side, or can it also incorporate elements of my Italian side? Both are equally important to me, and I would love to discuss both sides of my culture.

On a separate note, is there any reason why my post might have people assuming I'm a flame? I can only assume it was my abbreviation comment, which in retrospect did probably sound fairly stupid, but I honestly wasn't sure if I would get knocked for saying "YHSCCN" instead of "YHSCNC" or something ridiculous like that

Because of your low number of posts; many times people come in here with 1 post and try and start arguments or heated debates.

Yes, I'm multi-racial as well, and I wrote my DS about both sides of my heritage. I think you should as well, it would make for a more compelling DS in my opinion, and give a fuller picture of yourself for the admissions committees.

I would say to talk about both sides of your heritage, if they're both important to you. It makes you seem unique and especially diverse. I think they'll love it.

I wish I were multi-racial.. maybe I can write a diversity statement talking about both my English and Irish heritage?

The "if not a flame" thing was just because you're new and we don't know you yet.

I think an honest DS that discusses both sides of your family can be a very positive thing. I did something along those lines, talking about one side (which is Hispanic) and the other side (which is not) and how each affected me. Like with any DS it just depends on how you write it, but if well written it could benefit you to write about both.

Also, Adjudicator, I'd definitely write a DS about your own heritage if I were you. I admit that I don't have statistics to back my opinion, but something like that should only benefit you. Just out of curiosity--Southern or Northern Irish?
