Does residency help your chances?

Post by fosterp » Mon Jul 19, 2010 12:32 am

I am a WA resident and really hoping to get into UW sometime in the next couple years. My gpa right now is sort of in the gutter because of not taking CC seriously when I was still a teenager. My university gpa since I transferred is still pretty decent, but combined with my CC and a bunch of W's and R's will probably put my lsdas gpa near the 3.0 mark. So I am really pinning my chances on getting a 170+ on the lsat to make up for the gpa, but I am not sure what I will be capable of. On the offchance I can only get maybe a 165-170, does anyone know how much being a WA resident will help my chances? Also of note my UG school is UW as well...if that makes any difference. What is written on the law school site is:

"It is faculty policy that approximately 70% be established as a target for the percentage of Washington state residents in the entering class. However, residency is not a major factor in an admissions decision."

So can anyone interpret that into anything more concrete? Is there any place that shows admission statistics with residency status?

Yes, with state schools being in-state helps.

sweet...so maybe a 165 with a 3.0 could make the cut?

It's possible, but I think they are a pretty GPA-leaning school.

It looks like you'll need significantly higher than that (probably 168+) to get in.
