Your targets should be MVPDNCG.

Don't bother thinking outside T20.

Thanks. I appreciate the replies. For some reason I was under the impression that my GPA would put me out of contention for most of those schools.

Anyone have any thoughts on my addendum... should I include it? There is a fine-line between making excuses and giving context. I don't want to end up on the wrong side of that line.

Your gpa is rough, but fortunately law schools tend to weigh the value of the LSAT as much as 4x as heavily*

Congrats on rocking the LSAT.

*the specific weight varies from school to school, but since the LSAT is about the only normalized aspect of the application process, they tend to value it more than the GPA.

Absolutely include the addendum or, if it works appropriately, work it into your PS. You will receive T14 acceptances.

I would even throw an app at HYS, as a URM with a 177, you never know who might bite.

I would say apply to Columbia and on down... 177 is an awesome score + URM status, but there have literally been like 1 or 2 acceptances by HYS with a GPA <2.9 in the past several years. I'd save my money there, and but take my chances in that one of CCN might bite.

HYS won't take that GPA, but everywhere else is worth an application, and you'll be getting fee waivers.

Also, look heavily at Northwestern who loves your kind of splitter even without URM status.

I appreciate all the responses. About fee-waivers, I have been getting a few by email since taking the June LSAT but none from schools I would like to attend. When the upcoming admission cycle gets closer should I just call/email the schools I plan to app to and ask about possible fee-waivers?

Yes. Email is best. You should have great success with it. Be brief and to the point.

Yes definitely call or email. Schools give out those things like crazy if you just ask, and the worst that can happen is they say no! With that LSAT you should be able to get a ton of em, good luck!

OP, my GPA was only .05 higher than yours, and I hit bank with three of the T14 with a much lower LSAT. However, that said, I know people who have numbers somewhere between ours who haven't seen such results. My recommendation is to target heavily the T14, but then apply to those schools 15-40 where you really would like to attend, particularly if well-funded. That way, you cover your bases.

Good luck.

Being a URM is going to help you a lot, despite the low GPA.
I think you can get into any non T14 and have a shot at the lower T14 (except for HYSCCN, Berkeley, Penn).

Depends on your major, too.

I know an engineer with about the same GPA as you and a 175 who got into UCLA Law.

Are you a URM? According to lawschoolpredictor.com, I put in 2.82 gpa and 175(assumed) for lsat and you only get 3 "Consider"s and 4 "Weak Consider"s for T14. Being a URM certainly gives you some boost and results show better than the above, but I'm always unsure whether I should shoot for the mediocre "Consider"s (ones in yellow)

Yes, I'm AI with strong cultural affiliation. I had a 165, but I also had some pretty strong other softs (PhD, published, work and political experience, etc.) If the OP can write a strong explanation for your GPA (sounds like the OP can -- I had a kid during UG, and I wrote about how that effected my grades,) and get good LoRs to testify to hard work and character, then I expect some T14s will take a chance on him. But make sure to add some "safeties" to the list. Just in case.

And lawschoolpredictor is just a program -- it can't actually take into consideration all the factors that go into URM admissions. I wouldn't bother using it. I think it predicted I wouldn't make it higher than a T40.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
