3.4/169 -- Good work experience -- Chance at T14?
GPA: 3.4
LSAT: 169
I have good work experience -- took a semester off to staff a presidential campaign, now an employee in the U.S. Senate (still in undergrad).
What do you think my chances are at the schools listed below? And, are there some others that I should be considering?
Virginia
Duke
Northwestern
Cornell
Georgetown
George Washington
Boston University
Emory
University of Washington
LSAT: 169

I'm curious, why do you think Cornell is a 50% shot, but no chance at Georgetown. Isn't Cornell ranked higher?Desert Fox wrote:evandm wrote:GPA: 3.4

Because Gtown has a 170 LSAT median. If they admit you, they lower their GPA and LSAT median. Cornells is 167? I think.evandm wrote:I'm curious, why do you think Cornell is a 50% shot, but no chance at Georgetown. Isn't Cornell ranked higher?Desert Fox wrote:evandm wrote:GPA: 3.4

Also definitely throw an app to Michigan. If you really want T14, I'd ED there.

Not to be harsh, but you don't have "good work experience." You have good internships. Overall, your softs seem average. They won't take you anywhere beyond where your numbers would indicate.
If you'd consider a retake, one or two more points would give you a chance at Georgetown and Virginia ED.

Actually, they aren't internships. I'm a salary employee and have real work experience. I do think that means something considering I have had jobs that most people don't get until after UG. I'm not saying it will get me in to a good school by itself, but I do think it will help set me apart from the average applicant.scribelaw wrote:Not to be harsh, but you don't have "good work experience." DF, why do you think that Gtown is harder to get into than Duke? Of the few people I know who applied to to both schools, it seems that the opposite is true. In fact, Duke seems to care more about GPA than LSAT.Desert Fox wrote:evandm wrote:GPA: 3.4

Following the "you must be above at least one median" doesn't apply to everyone.
Not everyone who goes to law school with an LSAT below median has a GPA above median.
With that said, I don't think you're getting into Gtown- maybe if that was a 3.5..

Neither school is more selective than the other for all numbers. For example, Duke is much easier to get into if you have a 3.6-3.7/169, while GULC is easier for a 3.8+/168.pelmen74 wrote:DF, why do you think that Gtown is harder to get into than Duke? We're nearly numbers twins (I'm 3.45/168, non-URM). I applied to all of those schools this cycle (minus Emory and UW), and then some. My results?
Virginia - reject
Duke - reject
Northwestern - WL
Cornell - Reserve->Accept->Attending
Georgetown - Part time WL
George Washington - In, no money
Boston University - In, $10K/year

You need LSAT of 170+ to be considered. Some of the schools you listed are LSAT hungry-for example Gtown.
