the infamous AM060459
not really lol
so just got my LSAT score for the June 2010 test and scored a 159. my LSDAS gpa is a 3.2 (Non-URM). i have decent internship/work experience and some volunteering. i dont know if i want to retake as my pt average was a 158 (my cold diagnostic was a 134). i understand the difference between a 159 and 160 is huge and thats making me lean towards a retake. nonetheless lets assume for the moment im not retaking.
i want to pursue Business Law and perferably i would like to work on the east coast (NY borned and raised). although a more major concern for me is going to the best school possible.
list of schools i plan on applying early setpember:
U Iowa
Indiana U-Bloomington
U Wisconsin-Madison
Ohio State U
U Alabama
Case Western Reserve
U Miami (FL)
Brooklyn Law School
Pennsylvania State U
i have looked at LSN and LSP. just looking from some more/different insight. thanks.

If your PT average was 158 and your cold diagnostic was 134, I hate to break it to you, darling, but you might need a new plan. I don't think law school is for you.

so a 159 is not good enough for a T2 like Case Western Reserve or U Miami (FL)?
i beg to differ, darling.

Ok, let me rephrase. Yes, you can get into a law school. You will have a hard time finding a job, though. I think you should reevaluate your options.

Not at all. I think you need to stick to tier one schools, though, unless you have a full ride. With a 158, you aren't getting a full ride. In addition, (this doesn't sound nice, but I think you need to hear it) if your cold diagnostic was 134, I think your reading skills are probably not good enough to place in the top 5 or ten percent of your class at a tier two school. You would need to in order to make your investment worth it(get a job). Therefore, you need to reevaluate your options.am060459 wrote:so i assume your mentality is t14 or bust?eandy wrote:Ok, let me rephrase. Yes, you can get into a law school. Dude, I feel for you with the 159. If you think you can approach studying differently and improve, then retake. If not, here's my cycle:
159/ 3.8
Michigan - WL/OUT
UVA - WL/OUT
Duke - OUT
Cornell - OUT
UCLA - OUT
USC - OUT
Emory - OUT
Notre Dame - WL/ OUT
W&L - WL/ IN
Fordham - OUT both FT and PT
Cardozo - WL/ Withdrew
Brooklyn - WL/ IN PT/ OUT FT
UC Hastings - WL/ Withdrew
Loyola (LA) - IN
It's a rough life for us sub-159s.

Don't let people discourage you from going to law school if you want to go. A 159 isn't the end of the world, nor does it mean you're some retard incapable of doing well in law school.
Any chance you can take October?

HK, I wouldn't be concerned except that cold diagnostic is a huge red flag. Law school exams have time constraints, too.hellokitty wrote:Don't let people discourage you from going to law school if you want to go. i have a fee waiver from LSAC so i can with no additional cost (which is a huge incentive for me). i was averaging a 158 and dont know if i can do better. im scared of taking it again and scoring lower than a 159. also i want to get my applications in early. man oh man i dont know wat to do.

I think you're going to have a tough time with all of those schools except for Miami and possibly Penn St. You'll probably need to be closer to a 163+ for many of the others. Also, beware of going to well-respected midwest schools with the intention of coming back for a job on the east coast. You probably won't encounter any east coast firms at OCI or be able to network in the area you want to practice.am060459 wrote:not really lol

I think this is a fair assessment. And if you want to be in NY most of the schools aren't going to get you there. Brooklyn will get you there, but who know what you'll be doing. Iowa placed 0 people in the whole state of NY last year and is ranked above the rest of those schools.2009 Prospective wrote:I think you're going to have a tough time with all of those schools except for Miami and possibly Penn St. You'll probably need to be closer to a 163+ for many of the others. some TLSers swear that scoring a bad cold diagnostic or getting a sub 150 score means you cant survive law school nor find a good job. so many things wrong with that.megaTTTron wrote:My diag was like a 150 or something and I was top 10% at my T1 above kids with 170+'s-- LSAT is just a test. There is a hell of a big difference between 130s and 150s. I am not saying you can't do it. I am saying it is a red flag, and that it would be a very risky endeavor. I think (s)he should look at some other options because law school may not be the right choice.megaTTTron wrote:My diag was like a 150 or something and I was top 10% at my T1 above kids with 170+'s-- LSAT is just a test.
