Postby PrestigeWorldwide » Wed May 05, 2010 4:32 am

First time posting, long time lurker

-3.4/172
-white male/Texas resident
-graduated from top 25 lib arts college
-internship with firm in Dallas one summer
-work experience during UG but nothing special
-chair position in leadership fraternity (social)
-community service every semester of UG (don't know if that helps)
-good upward trend in grades and an addendum for one crap semester

here's my list so far...

Reach:
UVA
Cornell
GULC

Targets (hopefully)
UT Austin
Vandy
USC
UI-Bloomington
ND
UNC
BU
BC
Georgia

Locks (again hopefull...)
SMU
Alabama

Any thoughts on my chances of acceptance/possible scholarship for any of these schools would be awesome!

My preference is UT since I live here and it would be close...but we'll see

Which is it 171 or 172? That one point could make a lot of difference

I would say ED at UVA and you could have a good shot. A couple people with similar numbers on LSN seem to have gotten in. I really like your chances at Texas, since you're a resident. Just make sure you apply early and cast as wide a net as you can afford. I might even throw in a couple reaches higher than UVA if I were you.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing...
The only other ones I would add would probably be Penn and UChi and those are far out as I get...

Berkely seems out and NW is looking for out of school WE which I'm not looking at doing. Duke would be way too expensive I would think... And from what I read on here Michigan would probably YP me. But it might be worth a shot.

Edit: Then again, Vandy is super expensive too...

Here's someone with fairly similar numbers who got into Chicago this cycle. Apply to as many schools as you can. If anything I would cut out the lower schools. I guarantee you'll get in somewhere better than Alabama, you don't need them as a safety.

You'll probably get UT-Austin.
Just make sure to apply there as early as possible.
You should definitely apply to Michigan- if the only thing that's stopping you is that you think they're going to YP.
Michigan won't YP a 3.4/172 unless you write an unpersuasive "Why Michigan?" essay.
I think UVA would likely waitlist you but you are very likely in the other schools on your list.

As much as I wish I could say my future law school is selective enough to be a target for you, you should move UGA to your safeties list. You'll be in with an in-state tuition scholarship, at the bare minimum. They may even throw the extra 5k at you.

if you like UVA enough, ED and you should be a shoo-in. I got in ED with a 170.

I would add more reaches. I would think you could manage a T7-11 with the 172. I'd blanket those schools minus berkeley. Maybe add UChi if you really like it. I also don't think Duke is going to be much more expensive than most of your other options in that range.

I also suggest casting a wide net...don't know if you need ED if you're not dead set on one place. People have gotten as high as CCN with similar numbers as yours, and you could be looking at scholarship offers at several schools as well.
