What level Law Schools should I be looking at?

Post by Gatorbull84 » Fri Feb 05, 2010 2:56 pm

I am a engineer from the University of Florida with a undergrad GPA of 3.01, and I am currently in a very competitive medical masters program through USF's medical school. My graduate GPA is a 3.9 and its about to go up(3.93ish). I know my graduate GPA isn't calculated in but does it help at all? I was president of a club and a member of others with a good amount of volunteering. I am interested in applying for 2011. Depending on my LSAT, I was wondering what level of Law Schools I should be looking into. My school of choice is UF so I am shooting for a 163-165 range LSAT. I don't know if I will get this score but it is certainly possible.

Also, considering the fact that my GPA is lower than the average admitted student at a top 50 school and that my background is different will I even be able to get into a top 50 school? Is there anything else I can be doing that anyone could suggest?

Get a 165 and you will get a T30 school (I'm looking at you Alabama :) ). Get a 163 and you still have a good chance at a Top 50.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I m hoping for UF but if I could get in higher I would have to think about it.

Right, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) with a GPA that low, your chances of of admission ride on your LSAT. If you're able to get a 170+, then you have an outside shot at some of the t14 schools (Northwestern if you have work experience, Virginia early decision, Georgetown part-time). With a 168, and you're in at WUSTL, George Washington, Illinois. Mid 160s, you're going to have to blanket the lower t30-t50.

Aim as high as you can. Even if you still decide on UF, your chances of a nice scholarship increase with a good LSAT score.

Good luck!

Thanks, a lot. Right now I am using Barrons 13th edition and 10 actual LSAT's. Can any of you recommend any other study guides for the LSAT other than the classes?

Logic Games Bible and Logical Reasoning Bible by PowerScore and every LSAT you can get your hands on (or can afford to...).

if you can't afford too many, buy the newer LSATs.
