LSDAS-2.94

LSAT-180
Graduated in 98
Worked as a teacher aide with emotionally disturbed children for one year, then became a history teacher in 2000. Finishing an MA at Teachers College-Columbia U.

Can I get away with just hitting all the T14s?

In my opinion, you could but it would be a risk, that gpa is bad....The lsat is the nice, but I don't know if I'd not throw in some safeties...

I wouldn't advise wasting your money at Harvard, Yale, and Stanford unless you have some really outstanding soft factor like curing cancer or being the founder of a company.

Well, I would disagree - if money is no object.

If you don't care about the cost, you never know.

I respectfully disagree. If you don't get into one of the 10-14, I'll eat my hat. If you're going to add a safety, I think its unnecessary, but add one school in 15-25. Your practically 10 year old GPA is going to count for a lot less than your brand spanking new sexy LSAT.

Seriously, where are all these 180 LSAT sub-3.0 GPA people coming from? I'm confused as to whether or not I should be jealous of you all.

You will lose out to a pure 172 but probably beat out a 171 or 170.

You do run the risk of them viewing the 172 as a fluke, though, bear that in mind. If you have a legit reason for the difference in score, you might want to consider disclosing it.

thanks pyke. would you consider a very generic "being ill" to be a legitimate excuse?

i was planning on including a very brief addendum where i would say that i was sick when i took the test the first time. which is true. and then i would acknowledge the fact that i made a big mistake in deciding to take the test despite knowing that i was sick, instead of just waiting to take it at a later date. does this sound like a flaky excuse? should i not bother including it/just let my higher score speak for itself?

That really depends...The problem with "being ill" is if it affected you that badly, why did you not cancel?

With ANY addenda on LSAT, be sure that you can answer the natural questions that arise as a result of disclosure.

Wevans:

Maybe - but a single 170? Also, in the case of two 170's, you really only proved you're probably a 170 :p. He proved he could be a 172 :p

Meh, it works both ways man.

I had a 166 and dropped to a 163 with some misbubbling so I understand how frustrating it is, but the reality is that if the LSAT is a valid predictor, it should be the same 2% scoring in the 170.

ed seems like we have similar profiles, although you have my beat on GPA.

I think your list is relatively good. You should be a good candidate at most of the schools you list. Why not shoot for a few more top 10s? You never know; you'd probably have a shot at Penn, Michigan, etc.

I have a lot of faith in LSN, probably more than most on here, and of the 50 or so apps with similar numbers to mine, only 1 or 2 ever cracked the top 10 outside of Boalt, and it was usually the same 2 kids at every place.

Meaning, those are the people that transcend their numbers by doing something spectacular. I play rock music and memorize flashcards.

This = not transcendingly spectacular

I am applying to UVA, just because they sent me a fee waiver. I just can't rationalize throwing out that much app money when every piece of evidence tells me I have a 0% chance. $12? Sure, why not?

Heh, whereas with lower numbers, I shelled out $1,000 on that principle.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
