Hi all, just wondering if you think I have a shot at Boalt:

163,161 LSAT (161 first)
3.9 GPA (I know, I'm a splitter)

Humanities major
White, Western European immigrant, semi-interesting background
no other real soft factors

What do you think?

Also, should I mention my musical hobbies/background (violin)?

I think it's worth a shot, but I'm an optimist.

edit: oh, and I mentioned my music background on my resume, in the other/interests section. I guess it depends how significant that background is how much space you give it.

Forgot to mention, I have 2 LORs, one very good, the other probably good as well.
And would a 129 on the ACT count us "unrepresentative" of a 3.9 in college? As in I do okay but not great on standardized tests, or are they talking about much larger discrepancies?

I am assuming you mean 29, and the answer to that question is no. Sorry. As far as your musical talents/hobbies, I would definitely include them on your resume. Also, you might get a slight break on the LSAT if English wasn't your first language (I only mention it because you said you were an immigrant)

Hey all - I'm trying to advise a low LSAT/high GPA splitter, and am looking for posts on the subject. A search for splitter posts comes up with mostly 17X/2.X, but I am looking for 15X/3.9X. Any help/links would be appreciated.

Hey everyone,

I've been lurking/posting for awhile but have avoided posting/asking about my chances for sometime now. So here it goes:

163/2.17 (LSAC)

My GPA is horrific (god awful, atrocious, *insert adjective here*), I know...I have worked full time since the summer before my sophomore year and have just never been able to get to be a full time student. I have also repeated a bunch of classes from a failed pre-med attempt, which helps bring it down. I did really well in high school (but then again, who didnt?) and know I will do well in law school without a job and all of my time focused on studying (which is what my GPA addendum was about).

I have had an internship in a law office for the last two summers doing minor legal research and basically shadowing an attorney (which was awesome). I had an internship with the TXAG in the legal department of the child support division. I have other menial EC's. I am a non-URM. So...hit me with it. Feel free to PM me if too brutal.

Schools I Want To Go To:

SMU (PT or FT)
Houston
Texas (ridiculous, I know, but I applied for posterity...plus I am a resident, so I have that going for me)

Along the same lines of the previous poster ^^^^^^^^.

I have a pretty shitty LSAC GPA (I'm considering it just as shitty as the 2.13 since it is below a 3.0) but it is a 2.7. I am a double major in Political Science and Italian Literary and Cultural Studies from the University of Connecticut (Top 40 School).

I am white, but the remaining soft factors are pretty damn good. I have been involved in so many organizations in leadership positions over the years. Including VP of UConn stuent body for 2 years, President of Kappa Sigma Fraternity (90 man chapter), and I have testified to the Connecticut State Senate. I am also huge with community service hosting a charity event that raised $11,000 for a children's hospital. Also, I interned for the NJGOP for a summer under a Congressman who will be writing a LOR like I'm his child.

Basically, what I am getting at is that I am taking the LSAT on December 1st and have been practicing far ranging from a 160 - 167. What score do I need to get to get into these schools:

Rutgers-Camden
Rutgers-Newark
Seton Hall
George Mason
Penn State
Syracuse
Quinnipiac
Pace
Hofstra

you need to get as high of an LSAT as possible, obviously. if that's a 164, then so be it, if it's a 180, then you're in better shape. if you're asking the minimum to have a decent shot, i would say a 165+. work as hard as you can to get the score up, but adcomms are going to see your GPA as slacking off and might question if you will be able to keep up in law school. a lot of people have mentioned previously that going to a TTT school is not a good idea for job prospects, and if you aren't able to do the work, you are even worse off. just be sure that law is something you are really passionate about until you commit your time and money. just my $.02.

anyway, just look on lawschoolnumbers.com to get a better idea.

Actually, according to LSN you're most probably a waitlist. I'd guess it's unlikely after that, though.

BU is your best bet because of the weight they give GPA, but it still doesn't look too good. If you want a decent chance, you'll need a 162 or above.

Hello all, I'd love to hear what you think my chances are for the following fine halls of intellectual elitism:

Columbia

Berkeley

NYU

Harvard?

I realize that they are all reach schools for me. My LSDAS GPA came out to be a 3.37, but with my final two university years at a 3.92 (addendum included to explain). LSAT= 173. Soft factors=current Peace Corps volunteer, targeted essay/LORs to each school, state senate financial committee experience. And I'm a white male.
