T10 chances?: The Pessimistic Version
[170+]/[3.3-3.6] with two other low 160 LSAT scores. Apps already submitted before Thanksgiving.
What are my chances of completely whiffing on a T10 school? Applied from Stanford on down.

I say they are very low. You should get at least one of MVP.
Out of curiousity, are you w/l or priority reserve at Duke?

I agree with dk8, I would be surprised if you didn't land at least one.

I think you'll get all three from MVP and at least one of CCN. I am willing to bet your Duke result is an anomaly unless you somehow messed up on your application documents.

I'm wondering if WL at Duke was YP.

Someone with similar #s was dinged at Penn, and you are right on the cusp of people admitted to UVA and Mich. I think it's more likely that you get into one of the three, but not impossible for you to be dinged from all.

Puppins, I think OP is better than on the cusp at MV. I would be surprised if he writes a Why Mich and doesnt get in

I am going by LSN and people who have actually been admitted thus far. most admits are above his numbers, most rejects are below. cusp.boilercat wrote:Puppins, I think OP is better than on the cusp at MV. I would be surprised if he writes a Why Mich and doesnt get in

Are you out of state at UVA if so it may be tough for you to avoid the WL.

Re: T10 chances?: The Pessimistic Version
Last year there were 7,880 applicants to UVA.saltoftheearth wrote:? , .jawsthegreat wrote:Are you out of state at UVA if so it may be tough for you to avoid the WL.
780 in state, 7,100 out of state.
Each class is made up of 220 out of state applicants and 140 in state applicant (at least thats what they shoot for)
That is a 5 to 1 seat to applicant ratio for in state and 32 to 1 seat to applicant ratio for out of state applicants
Also factor in that this year a record number of people have applied ED to UVA, decreasing the numbers of seats available RD.
Look at LSN and the gigantic field of WL applicants.
So I will say again that it is very tough to avoid getting WL with #s like that at UVA.

Wrote a Why Michigan essay, but also wrote a why Duke essay too, so don't know how convincing it was.boilercat wrote:Puppins, I think OP is better than on the cusp at MV. I would be surprised if he writes a Why Mich and doesnt get in
Yea, out of state. I figured I might be WL at both UVA and Penn from the get go. Wasn't anticipating a WL at Duke, just kind of shook my confidence in my application package overall. It did help to see a person from LSN WL'd at Duke and in at NYU though.jawsthegreat wrote:Are you out of state at UVA if so it may be tough for you to avoid the WL.
While I would like to think that was the case, I have a feeling it was a combination of a lower GPA, the multiple LSAT scores, and possibly a weaker-than-anticipated application package.vanwinkle wrote:I'm wondering if WL at Duke was YP.

What makes you think your applications were weak?
If that is honestly true, then that could explain why you haven't gotten in any t14's yet. I'm surprised this is the case given your great numbers and early submit date.

Re: T10 chances?: The Pessimistic Version
I was actually pretty happy with my personal statement, though I did notice two small errors after the fact on it. The topic was probably a little bland and possibly a turn-off though. I guess my Why X essays may have been a little too general too. It's sad, but the essays I was most proud of were for NYU's academic programs, which I have little to no shot at getting, since soft factors are prob not strong enough. Maybe I'm just being too much of a pessimist though.Tangerine Gleam wrote:What makes you think your applications were weak?

I'm kind of surprised at Duke WL you. 174 LSAT is great. Maybe they averaged it? If they did, than the 174 becomes more like a 165 or something.
Otherwise, I think you can get into a few T-14s. I would try Northwestern and Chicago. Also, NYU, just give a great addendum for the first two scores.
Duke decision is scary though.

It is a little scary because Duke doesn't really YP. But there are people with similar numbers who get WL'd at Duke but go on to get into the T10.Sourpunch wrote:I'm kind of surprised at Duke WL you. 174 LSAT is great. Maybe they averaged it?
