Re: *Official 2009 ASW Thread*
I know that schools offer airfare and a stipend (usually) to attend their ASWs. I am wondering this: Will they pay for part or all of my spouse's transportation to their campus? I am curious about NYU specifically. Furthermore, do spouses even go to ASWs? I'm assuming so, in that everything becomes a joint decision in a marriage.

I doubt NYU will pay for your spouse to visit. I am even wondering how much they will give for us to begin with... Does anyone who went in previous years know?

Re: *Official 2009 ASW Thread*
This is an excellent question. If any of the 1Ls know from their experience, we'd appreciate it. The thread last year had all of the dates/locations in the first post, but no info regarding stipends. That may have been discussed in the later posts in that thread though.

np, happy to contribute something useful.
edited top post to ask the additional question of what people know re: accomodations. I know some schools will coordinate so that you can crash with current students which is great for some of us who are trying to save money.

Stanford didn't appear to offer to set you up with a current student, because they gave a list of hotels with preferred rates where they booked out a set of rooms. If I see anything updated later I'll correct it, but nothing explicit offering this like some schools.

Updated with the Yale info; hopefully we'll hear something about Columbia and Chicago soon.

Re: *Official 2009 ASW Thread*
I know last year some people DID stay with current students - but it wasn't offered at the onset to all admitted students. (From my observation, some of the affinity groups seemed to set people up with hosts?) Many people (myself included) successfully stayed at the hotels recommended by Stanford, and the law school offers shuttles between the recommended hotels and all of the ASW events.zabagabe wrote:Stanford didn't appear to offer to set you up with a current student, because they gave a list of hotels with preferred rates where they booked out a set of rooms. William and Mary is March 27 and 28.
If you guys aren't going to be able to make it to the ASW (class conflicts, other ASWs, etc.) are you just going to visit at another time? Any 1Ls have any advice on how to handle/juggle all the different visits and how to get the most out of them?
Thanks for the advice and this thread - it's helping me put together a hypothetical calendar

I would love to know this, too, especially since they are scattered in such a way that one almost has to criss-cross the country to go to more than 1-2!

Georgetown's second weekend is Thurs/Fri 3/26-27, not 28-29 as on the first page. I got my hopes up from this thread since I wanted to double up with UVA, but unless their admitted students site is wrong, they're at the same time.

Updated. Another useful thing would be to know whether certain schools only reimburse for ASW attendance or if they are flexible in reimbursing students who come on other days.

U Chicago:
ASW: April 3-4
"Featured Fridays" for those unable to attend ASW:
January 16
February 13
April 24
There's a $200 travel stipend for those who live 150+ miles away available. There's also an offer to house you with a current student.
I'm going to the Featured Friday next week on the 16th. Excited!

Re: *Official 2009 ASW Thread*
I do not know whether to go to UCB or Mich ASW. I cannot go to Mich in March due to work. I live in SFO and have been to Berkeley so many times. I want to meet the Berkeley peeps but also think I owe Mich a weekend. ARGH!
(Ill stop my rant as I realize this is an amazing situation to be in)
