Cheap pizza places are a dime a dozen, esp. around NYU. The Crocodile Lounge on 14th btw 2nd/1st offers a free personal cheese pizza (made there in brick ovens) with every beer/drink. You can easily eat two of them, and they're pretty decent. You can't really beat the price....

Also in the west village, corner bistro has amazing burgers...
Why am I going to HLS again?

I am attending NYU, but am living on 105th. You would be my best friend if you could rattle off some cheap good food spots in the area. I am moving in next weekend and can't wait to sample the fare.GaiijinLawyer wrote:Bourbon Street, Brother Jimmy's on the UWS .50 beers Wednesday and Thursday, $1 on Friday/Saturday till 12 or 1 am. Well..if you want something quick..my fave is this tex-mex place on thompson st, between bleeker st and west third. You can get a grilled chicken(or shrimp, steak etc) Combo with a Free drink for $5.69. It's delicious, healthy, and filling. In fact I think I'm gonna get some today!

What do you mean by not to expensive? Tribeca is more expensive than most areas in lower Manhattan, but you can certainly get by on being frugal. Good luck on NYU!, I go there for undergrad.

McSorley’s is a must. Get a friend or two and order a ten and ten. You will thank me later.

Hello, could you please post the 10 restaurants on the thread or PM me the list? I'll be in the NYU area (Cardozo) this fall.

Alright, who here has been to the Blind Tiger? They have one of the best beer selections in the entire city, and it's constantly changing...

McSorley’s (7th between 2nd and 3rd) brews their own beer (or has it brewed for them), thus they only serve two varieties – light and dark. The ten and ten is 10 light and 10 dark. They use relatively small glasses, so this isn’t quite as much beer as you may imagine. In fact, they will not serve you just one mug – there is a two mug minimum order. The bartenders can become very rude if you do not play by their rules or if you do not tip well. On more than one occasion I’ve seen them openly ridicule poor tippers. If you get on their good side, though, you are golden. All in all, it is a very enjoyable place, and I believe the oldest continually run bar in Manhattan. They also serve really good liverwurst sandwiches and some of the hottest mustard I have ever tried.

Re: Best NYU restaurants and bars...
There's a D'Agostino on University and 10th and an Associated on Bleecker and Laguardia, both if you're looking for the standard supermarket... There is a Whole Foods on 14th and Broadway and another on Houston and Bowery, as well as a Trader Joe's on 14th and 3rd... The Union Square stores are insanely packed, to the point where you will likely spend more time on the line than actually buying your food.

The Whole Foods in Union Square (and the one on Houston, for that matter) are always packed but the multiple queue system they have definitely speeds up the process.
