Ditto. You email them and "reserve" funds, so probably earlier is better for stipend requests.

Does anyone know if you can get stipends from schools for individual visits as opposed to ASW. I am not sure yet, but doubt my final exams will allow me to travel in April for an extended period, and the only way I could justify cost coming from West Coast Canada is if a string a few schools together.

I'm guessing it depends on the school. I emailed Minnesota and asked them this same question since I can't go to their ASW and they said they could give half the stipend they normally do. So I would email the admissions office and just ask.

W&L

ASW: February 27-28, March 20-21, and April 10-11.

Stipends: They reimburse up to $400 in travel expenses, pay for your hotel (free if you share a room), and provide transportation to/from the airport.

I noticed our acceptance ASW handout says April 10 in big font, but it's actually April 10-11 looking online.

Columbia is Mar 4-5 and 25-26. Their ASW states:

-In order to receive any reimbursement for the Admitted Student Program, attendance is required from no later than 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. The “Mondays at Columbia” event requires attendance for the entire day.

-Eligible candidates must email the Office of Admissions before the event at admit@law.columbia.edu to request consideration for a travel subsidy. Kindly submit all requests as far in advance as possible as (1) subsidy approval is required prior to the event and (2) funds are limited. Note: Subsidy approval must be received in writing from our office prior to your visit. If you submit your travel expenses after visiting the campus without prior approval, you will not be reimbursed.

-If you will be visiting a number of other law schools during the trip covered by your reimbursement request, your reimbursement from Columbia will be made on a pro rata basis.

Reimbursable Expenses
-A travel subsidy of up to $300 (amount given is contingent on a number of variables, including city of departure) to attend an admitted student event before the May 1 decision deadline will be provided.
-Reimbursable travel expenses include: fare for airplane, train, and motor coach/bus travel or mileage for personal automobile travel.
-Non-reimbursable travel expenses include: frequent flyer mileage, hotel accommodations, meals, and local public transportation fare (airport shuttles, subways, city buses, taxis).

-Itineraries and travel expense documentation (original receipts and ticket stubs) must be received no later than May 30, 2015 by the Office of Admissions in order to qualify for reimbursement, which will only be provided after the travel has been completed.

I'm going to go with March 4-5th since that is Wed-Thursday. Haha also are they basically saying they won't subsidize fully if you also go to NYU's on Friday?

But lol I'm not even in so I need to calm down :P

Duke ASW info went out today- travel subsidies are available from $250-$350 depending on where you're coming from. You need to turn in receipts/boarding passes/etc and they reimburse you.

Also if your flight lands after 8:30 a.m. or leaves before 7:30 p.m. on Friday 3/27, you're not eligible. This was a source of minor frustration until I realized my calendar was in the wrong time zone...

I was actually offered $350 by Michigan (have to email itinerary and receipts) and heard of someone else getting $200 + all hotel fees waived. I got my stipend pretty easily but know the other person had to do a bit of back and forth to get the offer. Then again, we're both coming from different continents so maybe Michigan takes pity on international dwellers.

If more than 50 miles away, up $500 reimbursed for travel to UC Irvine. Over 500 miles, "additional consideration may be given."

NOTE: This is like Harvard where you only acquire a travel subsidy based on financial need.

Their application has the following in it:
"Reason why Columbia-related travel expenses would represent a financial strain (please explain your circumstances in detail - Please include income, expenses, etc. or other conditions that demonstrate need of assistance):"

I went to UVA for an individual visit and they gave me the stipend.
The amount depends on the state or area you are visiting from, either $100, $250, or $400!

What is the etiquette for visiting multiple schools and having to submit your flight info to receive a stipend? Do schools frown if you submit your flights and you were clearly coming from another school/going to a different school? How do they calculate how much the stipend is in that case?

I live on the West Coast and will be visiting schools in the northeast so its not feasible to fly back and forth, nor do I think law schools would expect me to do this.
