The Vanderbilt Law School building is one of the most pleasant, comfortable and well-designed law school facilities in the country.

Not sure why the building would matter that much as opposed to the huge number of more pertinent factors. Building is crappy, but serves its purpose. It doesn't add to the experience in any way, but it certainly doesn't detract either. If the stats in your profile are accurate, I'd be more concerned about actually getting in at all, rather than getting a full ride.JoeMo wrote:I recently took a tour at BU Law and was extremely disappointed. I can't see myself spending 3 years in that tower, even with a full ride. It's such a shame because the rest of the school is much nicer and their academics are great.

Comfort is always an issue. Great facilities make people want to spend more time in the buildings and the decor can affect the moods of the students and staff, and that translates into the types of interactions people have. Appearance, comfort and convenience factors into students' and profesors' performance levels. The schools obviously agree, or they wouldn't be competing in a sort of facilities arms race. See Stanford, Berkeley and Fordham to name a few.

I agree. Our school has been a massive construction zone for the last few months and when they finally finished last week it was pretty cool. Having tables and couches and study rooms / courtyard > classrooms and the library only.

UC Hastings could use an entirely new location. Academy of Art needs to give up one of the several dozen facilities they have to them.

Drove by it the other day and thought the exact same thing. I mean, you don't choose your school based solely on aesthetic appeal (I think?) but if it weren't for the sign on the building I wouldn't have been able to differentiate it from anything else on the block.SchopenhauerFTW wrote:UC Hastings could use an entirely new location. I am shocked that Hastings hasn't gentrified its surrounding neighborhood yet. One would think that a century of law students passing through would have caused their parents to note an investment opportunity there. The streets four blocks east at Powell St. are nice. Hastings needs to drag those businesses over to them. Also they need to eminent domain a square block, so they can put a quad in. If you look at that area on google maps' satellite view, it almost looks as if Civic Center plaza by City Hall is the Hastings quad.

Sometimes I wonder if UC Davis is ranked higher than UC Hastings because of the Tenderloin.

Berkeley. Yeah it's true. If you disagree, you've never been there.

I'm going to accidentally fat dood hulk out in Booth Hall next semester. I gotta play tetris with my body to get into them. And then my battery runs out.Eugenie Danglars wrote:This is true. Or, you have actually been there recently.Berkeley. Yeah it's true. If you disagree, you've never been there.
Boalt just debuted a whole new wing – equipped with a brand new library, brand new cafe and study space, as well as several brand new classrooms. This is all in addition to the student center built in 2009.

Take note that each and every one of these renovations have taken place in the midst of – and despite – California's budget crisis. Christopher Edley has done a wonderful job raising funds privately (and yes with tuition increases) in order to not only maintain the quality of education at Berkeley Law, but improve it.
Forgive my obviously partisan response. But I am a 2L at Boalt – I love my school and I can't help but defend it in the face of (often baseless) TLS criticism.

Re: Which Law Schools Need New Facilities?
I was not impressed with Boalt's facilities when I visited. It really bothered me that there wasn't carpet in 99 percent of the place. Not only only that, but the chairs weren't comfortable in the classrooms and it was just overall not an attractive school to me. However, that was quite possibly the only problem that I had with the school. The people and atmosphere at Berkeley were simply amazing and I would encourage anyone applying to the school to make a decision for his or her self. However, for me the building facilities were a deal-breaker.

I actually just stopped by Berkeley today and I thought the renovations were wonderful (especially the library and the reading rooms). UCLA's interiors and USC's exterior need a facelift however.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
