kiiiiiiiiiiinda... I was born in Gilroy, California but we moved before my 1st birthday. Then I lived in Irvine for a few years during Jr High.

But I've been there for vacation a lot. Like, a lot a lot. And I love it. The economy not so much.

Same situation as you guys, hoping UT can get me back to CA.

It's reassuring just to know that other people are concerned with this. I've been imaging UT = Texas forever. Though that wouldn't be all that bad, my family is in CA.

Well. California would be great. But I'd be just as happy with Portland, Seattle or Boise. Not because Boise is as cool as L.A. or San Diego on it's own. It's just that's where I'm from.

I'm renting a car, how far is it to Salt Lick?

about 20-30 min drive

I can't join you guys but do the wine sampler out in the cellar to the side. :-) I tried the Salt Lick's "BBQ red" and I actually preferred it to some of the non-house wines. It had kind of a smokey finish. A little out there but very enjoyable!

What night would work best? Obviously we will all be there Friday night, but if we went Thursday I know a place we can two-step...

YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!! I'm halfway tempted to bring my cowboy hat. haha

You wouldn't stick out....

About the Salt Lick, the original one is about 40 minutes from campus. It's BYOB too. Here's the website:

Nah. It's a work hat. I'd look like a complete hick.

But if I attend, I'm buying a black felt Stetson the first week I'm there.

Okay...so Thursday night then? I potentially have to work until 6, but I could meet people after I finish closing. How does that sound?

Would Saturday work? I think there's a banquet on Thursday night.

I'm gonna be there from Thursday afternoon to Saturday morning and I'm so excited! I may or may not have packed my bag full of warm weather clothes last Friday in preparation...I'm ready for some segway tours, barbecue, and general UT awesomeness!

So when and where is this BBQ happening? Also, I'm roadtripping out there with a non-law school friend, is it kosher to bring him to a TLS meetup or are we too cool?

You guys should hit up Shakespeares on 6th street on Thursday night. Sure its full of undergrads, but they have 5 dollar liquor pitchers, which is badass. I think the cran/vodka is probably best bang for your buck. You should check out 6th street, its a lively and fun place. Ill answer any questions you guys have about areas around austin and what to do.

We could do 6th on Friday night and Salt Lick on Saturday?

6th is pretty easy to get to/we can go much later so it'll be easier to do on Friday.

It's alright, we should do 6th Street either Thursday or Friday night (I vote Friday), I'll hit up Salt Lick when I come to find an apartment.
