Eh, I'm still wearing jeans. I have some khakis, but the jeans are more comfortable. I plan on practicing law in pajamas if I can.

Count me in! I'll have the * on my nametag. Anyone interested in watching some games afterwards? A couple start around 9:30. I'm up for anything, though.

Ah, I'm glad I thought to check for this before tomorrow. I'm a 1L for any of you who don't know me from the "ask me about w&m" thread. I'll be at the reception tomorrow night, and as far as I know we are planning on heading out to the bars (delis for those of you in the know) after the reception, so yay :). If anyone wants to PM me questions about tomorrow I'll make sure to check here frequently before tomorrow night. I believe they have informed all the current students to go business casual too, if that helps the dressing conversation any. Ladies, I'll probably wear a pencil skirt and blouse-type shirt most of the weekend. Also, I met all of the people who posted on last year's thread and it was pretty fun, so good idea :). Hope you guys have fun this weekend!!

agreed Sunbird can you please pm me with your clothes info and such so that I do not have my offer rescinded because of harassing random people standing in front of law school.

I was asked to post about where people will be heading out tonight. Most likely we will go to Paul's, Old Green Leafe and then end up at the Ho (Hospitality) House, which houses Williamsburg's one and only club. If you aren't staying with a current student PM me and I'll try to find you at the reception to get you in the loop!

It was good meeting all those who came out. So far, I really like the vibe of the school and town. Plus, the bar scene seems laid back, which is nice - I'm not much of a drinker and I prefer bars that aren't huge, raucous, and impersonal if I end up having to go out. The delis and cafes definitely don't seem to fit any of those negatives. I also can't wait to see what the town, campus, and law building look like in the bright sunlight expected tomorrow.

See everyone tomorrow. It was also nice to see what kind of considerations everyone else is weighing.

Special thanks to KrispyKitten for keeping me up to speed while I was stuck in that crazy traffic jam on the 495 and then 95 (4 hours to go ~50 miles!). Also to 2010law for the very good and thoughtful conversations.

It was a pleasure meeting everyone during ASW.
I enjoyed our conversations and look forward to (hopefully) seeing you again in August.
Good luck making your final decisions.

Nice!

W and M moved into the Number 1 spot, though I am still visiting BU, W and L, and IUB before deciding. If they had matched IUB's offer (or even W and L's offer), I think I would have slapped down the deposit about 5pm yesterday. After hearing mediocre things about the facilities, I was very pleasantly surprised by the building (especially the library) and the landscaping. I sat in the parking lot talking to students for an hour after the event ended, and they improved my opinion of the school and students even more.

I had a great time. Those W&M law students do know how to party, lol, even though for me Fri night will hopefully become an exception rather than the rule.

Gradplex looks decent from the outside, but was not awesome inside if anyone is interested - the building definitely needs an interior renovation. Not sure if it is worth 600 or so bucks they are charging (you have a roommate by the way).

That was the only negative thing though. Academic facilities are top notch, everyone was super nice and the school's reputation speaks for itself. It was very nice talking to sunbird, jellybeans and krispykitten.

I am about 98% sure I am coming but it was my #1 choice before anyways....

Sounds like everyone had a great time. I'm actually on the waitlist, hoping to become admitted. I did indeed visit a few weeks ago, and had the chance to chat with Associate Dean Thurston about the school, its programs, and career placement goals.

I wish I had the opportunity to meet with some of the TLS admits. It sounds like great times were had by all! It does make a person wonder.... with all the TLS'ers going to W&M, does that mean that W&M is a home for biglaw piranhas?* haha :D

* = I'm aware that it's a fallacy of composition to assume all W&M students are biglaw junkies, or that all TLS users are, for that matter. I'm mostly just poking fun.... but I WOULD like to know how competitive the student body tends to be. I've heard that a more friendly, cooperative learning environment is key to maintaining one's sanity. 8)

They seemed VERY cooperative as opposed to competitive. I also asked this to several students who weren't really involved with the ASW, and they agreed it wasn't that competitive. They were average students - one admitting they were probably towards the bottom 1/4 and another saying they held onto their Grad Fellowship (3.0) by the skin of their teeth 1L, so I am really inclined to believe them.

The 3.3 curve, smaller class sizes, and small-town vibe probably all contribute, but I think there are also a lot of PI/Gov't people at W and M. The TLSers I met, save 2010law, did seem very interested in BigLaw, but I'm not that interested. I guess I'd like to have it as an option if I decide to short-sell my soul and try to get it back long-term, but it's pretty low in terms of why I'm considering schools.

I think sanity would be pretty easy to keep in Williamsburg.

The gradplex was by no means a horrible place to live. Our really large group of people who toured through an apartment was on the most part very impressed. It was spacious with lots of natural light. The drawback was that it didn't have a dishwasher. But a stone's throw away from the school -- I couldn't complain.

i do not want to create an impression that Gradplex is an incredibly horrible place to live - it is really a typical college dorm, thats all. It is incredibly close also. My only point is that in this economy for 600 a person you will be able to get something substantially nicer.
