Do you think we're talking suits here or like I said before, black pants and a nice sweater/top?

formal is tuxes. I think you'd be fine in business casual but a suit and tie probably wouldn't be out of place. If I were going i'd probably wear a suit w/out tie (but have one handy).traehekat wrote:I would imagine it is formal attire.jaskat wrote:BTW, what do we wear to the reception ?

My bad, clearly I am not required to know the distinction between business casual/formal/whatever very often.Slimpee wrote:formal is tuxes. What I meant was probably a suit with or without a tie, but business casual at the least.

Ok, I haven't seen the school mention business or business casual at all...but fwiw and in case it is the requirement, at work business casual is any sort of slacks/dress/skirt with a blouse/sweater/nice shirt; business for women would require a much more careful choice of shoes (no showing toes, etc.), a suit jacket with slacks/skirt, etc.
If I were going to the reception, I'd keep it nice but not sweat the details too much. You're already admitted!

I'm wearing a navy cardigan with a silk light blue top underneath with straight grey pants and nice shoes with pearls. Put together, but not trying to hard. I like....
PS- I work at the Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy. If anyone is in need of shopping for new clothes for this event, let me know I can email you a 30% coupon that is good the 18th-21st (online and in stores).

I will be going. I think business casual is a good bet. I read an older thread from last year and that is what the admissions office told the students when they asked.

None of the UMN admitted students wore suits, although it wouldn't have been odd to do so. I wore slacks, a plain button up shirt, and a sweater. Overall, business casual was definitely the norm. I did see a few jean wearers though.webbylu87 wrote:Do you think we're talking suits here or like I said before, black pants and a nice sweater/top?
I got a job at Old Navy specifically so I could use the employee discount. Most my paychecks go to upgrading my wardrobe, as it wasn't equipped for the cold midwestern weather. Love the extra 50% off clearance event.robin600 wrote:I'm wearing a navy cardigan with a silk light blue top underneath with straight grey pants and nice shoes with pearls. Re: Iowa, March 25-28 ASW
I will be there and am up for a TLS meeting. I'm finishing up undergrad here so I have a pretty good idea of the places to go and avoid. The best places to meet would probably be the law school entrance after closing remarks or the bar "the airliner" in downtown Iowa City. Mickey's Pub is also pretty good. Anyone have a preference?

So I've been living here in I.C. for the past 7 years and I went to the Mickey's Pub for the first time ever this week, and I loved it.cojonelso wrote:I will be there and am up for a TLS meeting. 7 years and just now Mickey's? What have you been doing here?
Either or is fine with me; would probably be easiest to meet up at the law school after the day's events and then go from there that way they aren't looking around trying to find the place.

Is anyone traveling from California to attend the admitted student's day?
If so, can you please provide how you will be making the journey and suggest any recommendations to making the trip as affordable as possible. Thanks
