So I called the office to ask how long I should plan to stay on Saturday. They told me that it's all informal student-run events that the office has no information for really . . . it's just whatever groups of students plan for, could just be a quick lunch, or something more substantial, but none of it is really important. I'm probably going to just keep my flight out Saturday afternoon. And if anyone was wondering (I was), the "Diversity Admit" thing on Thursday night is for everyone.amputatedbrain wrote:What times are you all coming/going? I'm flying in early afternoon Thursday, and leaving around 3pm Saturday . . . too early? Anyone have any idea the length/nature of the informal events going on Saturday, and are people planning on staying for them?
Edit: if no one knows, I'll call the admissions office tomorrow and post again

Re: Berkeley ASW 2010
Hi All,
I've been searching for a place to stay. I was going with the cheap is for me option and was considering the hostel or YMCA, but I found a great deal from Expedia on the Doubletree Hotel & Executive Meeting Center Berkeley Marina. It was averaging 70$ a night which is not that far off in price from the hostel. Just thought I'd share.

Sweet, bar review on thursday night! I'll be going to UCLA's bar review this week so we'll see how the boalties stack up
I'm taking a much-needed vacation from work and so-cal in general so i'm pretty stoked.
Anyone considering the Berkeley Travelodge? I found a nice deal online when you use a corporate id promo code. Came out to $150 for two nights. PM for details.

If you haven't joined the facebook group, the Pres of the Student Association got together a spreadsheet of people willing to put up (with) accepted students!

Hey, I won't be getting to campus until 9 pm Friday but all the events for Friday are done earlier. I know people are planning on going out after, so I was wondering where people are going to go. I will try to meet up at that location.

Re: Berkeley ASW 2010
does anyone know the best way to get from SFO to Berkeley? I'm assuming the BART is the best inexpensive way to go.
also, lets (pleez) do a TLS meet-up. Anyone from Berkeley want to suggest a place?

As for a TLS meet-up, I'd recommend Jayakarta. It's an awesome Indonesian Restaurant located on University Ave. It's a little small, but based on this thread's traffic, I would think that wouldn't be a problem.

I would also love to have a TLS meet-up. Also, I'm not picky about where we go.

Re: Berkeley ASW 2010
We need to have a TlS meet up. I am fine with any of orphanarium's suggestions, but for logistical reasons, I think it would be best to meet at a place without so many people. We can head to those places after meeting up, but it will be damn hard to find people in a packed place if you don't know exactly who you are looking for. What does everyone think? Any preferences?sandiecohen47 wrote:I plan on taking BART from SFO to Berkeley and I can't think of a cheaper way.kingabraham3 wrote:does anyone know the best way to get from SFO to Berkeley? Re: Berkeley ASW 2010
how about we meet up of friday during the "brown bag lunch" at 12, and we can all introduce ourselves etc, and see what peoples' plans are for later on. if you guys are okay with this, then someone who goes to berkeley should identify some marker or something in the art museum (where the lunch is happening) so we can easily find each other.

and seriously, Berkeley says they're expecting 350 people. there is no way so few TLSers are planning on going.

If people don't want to meet up for the Paper Bag Lunch, how about other Friday night suggestions? Beta Lounge? Beckett's? Triple Rock? Other ideas? I'm a huge fan of Jupiter because of its beer and its outdoor seating (although it only serves beer and wine). Friday is supposed to have lovely weather.

Re: Berkeley ASW 2010
I can't wait for ASW. I went to Berkeley for my undergrad (graduated '09) and have been working at a law firm in Oakland this year. I can't wait to be on campus but in a totally new environment! I would be happy to meet up with anyone either after the events on Friday (beat the clock, anyone?) or sometime Saturday to hang out in Berkeley. As for those who haven't been... I am truly excited for you all to experience Berk, as it is completely colorful, eccentric, intellectually charged, and all-around amazing (not to mention SUNNY this week!). Please feel free to PM me with any questions, or just for fun!
P.S. If at all possible, I would echo some of my peers here and STRONGLY encourage you to take public transportation... parking near campus is fairly expensive and/or fairly impossible.
See you all this weekend, and GO BEARS!

Re: Berkeley ASW 2010
Brown bag lunch meetup sounds like a good idea... however, it may be hard to find one another even if we do make a planned location. How about we put a dot on the bottom left corner of our name tags. Nothing obvious. But, if it's there, we'll know it's ok to ask if the name-tagged is TLS.kingabraham3 wrote:how about we meet up of friday during the "brown bag lunch" at 12, and we can all introduce ourselves etc, and see what peoples' plans are for later on. if you guys are okay with this, then someone who goes to berkeley should identify some marker or something in the art museum (where the lunch is happening) so we can easily find each other.

Jupiter is one of my favorites, although it might be worth it for those new to Berkeley to stop into Bear's Lair on campus to get a feel for the on campus bar (which, I will agree, is heavily frequented by undergrads, although I have some charming friends who are grad students that always try to make it Friday afternoons!), and Bear's Lair has many of Jupiter's beers on tap (same ownership).
As a possible meeting spot, you could meet at Kroeber Fountain? Kroeber Fountain is directly west of the Law School on campus (you could throw a rock and hit it). So IF anyone is looking for an accessible point on campus to meet before/during/after events, the fountain is a possibility.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
