This is total bullshit, but schools unfortunately don't seem to value such a financially responsible approach. And some applicants reading these posts will only corrupt the fin aid system further. On the other hand, you're well positioned to kick ass during 1L and get a significant scholarship thereafter or transfer for a more valuable degree...a male human wrote:Yeah, I worked 2 years full time to save up for school, and I was rewarded with a big 0.

Just that you had the foresight and discipline to save up for school. Success in LS is never a sure thing, but this is not a bad sign either.a male human wrote:Thanks, but what made you say I'm well positioned to kick ass in 1L?drdolittle wrote:This is total bullshit, but schools unfortunately don't seem to value such a financially responsible approach. Well, that's interesting. Maybe there is no expected result, or time frame, but your one-day turnaround at least suggests that for each individual crop of email recipients, there is some variability. Looks like they're just sending out feelers to the seriously considered, and making offers by responding to withdrawals, etc, as they come.RadMobile wrote:I received the email on Tuesday and then received a call on Wednesday. Anyone know the best way to get to Hastings from either SFO or Oakland International with public trans? Thanks in advance.

From SFO just jump on BART, there's a station in the airport, and take it to the Civic Center stop. It's like a 20 minute ride and you can see the Tower when you exit the station. It's honestly ridiculously convenient. Check out the BART website to get details.

Re: UC Hastings 2010!!!
you can take BART from the oakland airport as well, but you have to pay something like $5 or $8 bucks for the shuttle from the coliseum bart to the airport. I have never used BART to SFO but I don't believe you have to do anything like this there. And generally SFO prices are cheaper than San Jose or Oakland.savesthedayajb wrote:Great, thanks a lot man. I second this. This is what we did when we visited last year. You step blinking out into the sun (sorry, my boyfriend was singing a Lion King song yesterday) to these shiny white buildings and you say 'wow' and then you never ever want to leave.scgoaliface32 wrote:From SFO just jump on BART, there's a station in the airport, and take it to the Civic Center stop. my first thought on stepping on to the airtrain heading to the Bart stop was 'wow this is like some futuristic utopia'sibley wrote:I second this. This is what we did when we visited last year. Yes, def. a great way to wind down from a flight, on the modern BART system.Borhas wrote:my first thought on stepping on to the airtrain heading to the Bart stop was 'wow this is like some futuristic utopia'sibley wrote:I second this. For those of you who can only come into Oakland Int'l Airport, they have a quick shuttle bus that drops you off at the Oakland Coliseum BART stop, from which you can get to Civic Center, in about 20 - 25 minutes.

Yeah, SFO>Oakland for riding BART, especially if you are wanting to visit Hastings.
For those of you who were accepted off of the waitlist, have you gotten your financial aid packages yet, and if so, how long after the acceptance was given did you receive notice of the financial aid package?

I noticed that the loan amount allocated for rent comes out to $900/month for a 12 month period. That is not nearly enough to work with if you dont live in the tower. Anyone else having this issue?

The financial aid guy said you can request more loans if you need it. Go make an appointment with one of the counselors

Received fin aid package last Thursday, so 7 days after being accepted off the waitlist. Although they probably didn't process anything until Monday, as I was accepted pretty late on Friday, so that is more like a 4 day turn around.RadMobile wrote:Yeah, SFO>Oakland for riding BART, especially if you are wanting to visit Hastings.

Interesting. I had just planned to be a bit more frugal with my money during the semester to leave enough for the summer. The cost of living estimates, to my eye anyways, seem to be on the high side, especially with regard to food and transportation.fiftyonefifty wrote:The financial aid guy said you can request more loans if you need it. I urge folks to find a housemate (even just one). Living in the Bay Area makes one lear54n how to do this, and you can shave $200/month rent by doing so. Seriously. Plus, if it's someone you meet at law school, and you get a good vibe about him/her, then you can live with someone going through the same 1L experience.missinglink wrote:Interesting. A 1BR in SF will be under $1K/month (with very few exceptions) only if the places is the size of a Honda Accord, or if you go live off the city (Richmond, Sunset, etc).

Re: UC Hastings 2010!!!
Granted I haven't looked very recently, but I can't imagine a 1BR in or near SF being under $1K/mo, except maybe in the absolute worst areas where most law students would refuse to live. Even decent studios are typically more than this. I'd be very suspicious of any apt listing that looks too good to be true in general...tommytahoe wrote: I urge folks to find a housemate (even just one). Exactly. SF is expensive like NYC when you account for the limited space available, and the tiny apts. one gets just to live alone.drdolittle wrote:Granted I haven't looked very recently, but I can't imagine a 1BR in or near SF being under $1K/mo, except maybe in the absolute worst areas where most law students would refuse to live. I'd be stunned to find more than one or two real 1 bedroom apartments in SF for under $1K/month. Crappy studios end up costing around $900+/month.drdolittle wrote:Granted I haven't looked very recently, but I can't imagine a 1BR in or near SF being under $1K/mo, except maybe in the absolute worst areas where most law students would refuse to live. I was just gonna get on here and tell y'all that, nope, nothing for me. I'm one of the email recipients —like Sibley and I think missinglink, who got the email and later the offer of admission. It will have been 10 days tomorrow when they sent the email. I responded with the info. and an attached LOCI, so if they don't make an offer, it won't be because I didn't express interest!RadMobile wrote:Any news or movement?
