I wonder what their medians are at UVA?

A boxed out median with URMs in the middle.

Today's WLs/rejections are providing even more proof of their number-whore status.

Are we saying that number whore status is determined by an inverse-L shape for acceptances (meaning they'll take any high GPA or any high LSAT beyond a certain point)?

Wow that is pretty bad.. if they had a bigger sample they definitely would trump UVA.

Also that chart looks very Christmas and Holiday like if you ignore the fact that its acceptances/denials.

ITT: Anti-splitter trolling.

Your 'numbers whoring' is my 'looking past GPA.'

Or 'looking past LSAT' if you're above a 3.85 at UVA.

Anybody notice the YP at Penn? That upper right corner is oddly quite empty.

Chicago and UVA will likely come out the same- they always do.

Last cycle, everyone complained that UVA "yield protected" by waitlisting so many people with high numbers. Now people are complaining that they're "whoring" people with high numbers by accepting them all. By definition, it is impossible to do both simultaneously: you can't both accept everyone and yield protect everyone at the same time.

UVA appears to set a minimum GPA cutoff and a minimum LSAT cutoff. If you meet either threshold, you will be considered carefully. Just because you meet the threshold, that doesn't mean you'll get in--and just because you'll probably get into Harvard or Yale doesn't mean that you won't get in.

The process is semi-objective, semi-subjective. If you meet the threshold (objective), you'll be carefully considered under personal review (subjective).

That's a hell of a lot better than Georgetown, where a 170+ is a practical guarantee of admission. You all should be happy that you are not limited by a single test score or single computation of your undergraduate performance. Stop bitching.

That was a valiant effort!!! But, come on.

When 173/3.60 applicants start getting waitlisted and people complain about yield protection, I'm going to link back to this thread.

Dude, a school can YP and whore for numbers.

They WL people who will likely not attend because they will get into a better school and didn't show that much interest in the app; and then they take people just above a certain predetermined number (looks like 170 LSAT and like 3.85 GPA) I don't see why you think these two things are mutually exclusive.

This pretty much matches what I predicted after seeing the heightened LSAT enrollment numbers. There are so many 170s out there now that T10 schools can almost exclusively take 170+ students and there's enough to go around. They'll only go below 170 if they need to (to get a student with a really high 3.9+ GPA) or if they really want to (an applicant whose numbers are low but PS are truly awesome, though most people don't realize that they are not the special snowflakes that this requires).

This is just the reality of the world. Getting used to it now will help prepare you for practicing law in 3 years.

Yes, I really don't think UVA is worse than any other school. The graph was oddly shaped because of the unique nature of UVA's ED program. Getting to hear back within 15 days really pushed quite a few applicants from RD to ED to ensure admission.

The graph has already normalized to a certain point since GeePee posted it, with the wave of rejections/waitlists. It'll continue to look more and more normal as the cycle goes on.

If any school is the most number-whoreish, I take back my earlier consideration of Harvard, because it HAS to be Duke. The fact that they selectively choose people for PT from 170-172 with high GPAs (which all but assures admission for these people) based solely on those numbers tells me that the people admitted via PT, of which I was one, are admits solely on numbers alone.

look at last year's numbers. most of the people with high numbers will get waitlisted before all is said and done.
