Emory reports $17,748 ($1,972 per month) in Living Expenses.

BU reports $11,808 Room and Board + $2,990 Personal Expenses = $14,798

I don't completely get Emory's COA...I am from the area, and yes, there are expensive places to live in Atlanta. But looking at the apartment complexes that seem to be where most of the law students live, if you're willing to live with a roommate, rent should be no more than $600/month. And even that is pushing it, IMO. I don't see where that $1972 a month is going to go, but the good thing is that the $17k should make living over the summer very easy. I think it's roughly $1475 a month when factored over 12 months instead of 9. That should still lead to pretty comfortable living in Atlanta.

They do it so you can take out more in GradPlus loans. You won't pay $2600 in books and you can't even get parking pass 1L year but that is allotted so you can take out more money just in case.

Gobucks, are you a 1L at Emory right now? Did you take out the full amount in GradPlus loans? And if you did, are you finding you have a lot of money left over, maybe even to the point that you will be able to take less than the full amount in your second and third years? Thanks!

Did anyone who applied for the Woodruff get a scholarship offer in the first round they sent out these past few days?

Yeah, I thought the COA seemed absurd as well. I understand the idea behind it, and it will be nice to have the option to take out more in loans, if I feel so inclined, but if any current students could provide a more realistic estimate of what one can expect to spend over the course of a year that would be very helpful.

I wonder this as well.

I did not understand this response:

This is my situation. I will almost assuredly not get Woodruff.

My bad. I thought rccohla's post read "for those who have not gotten scholarship offers..."

What I meant to say was that I applied for Woodruff, will probably not get it, and I hope I get an offer soon. Sorry for the mixup.

The Emory Law staffer Rob gave a similarly confusing answer to a similar question about Woodruff applicants being disadvantaged in the general scholarship pool. I guess we'll have to wait in see.

I take it you also applied for Woodruff, and I hope we're not at a disadvantage, but I've heard anecdotally that we might be.

166/3.7-3.8 and I got the same 72k. Where are those 96k packages from last year ;)? Still a very nice offer from a T20 school. It's attractive, but it seems Emory is very private practice oriented (at least from the pie chart in the packet).

Yeah I did, and I've heard the same thing. Its too bad because my scores are in the big money scholarship wheelhouse, both right above last years 75th%. Competitive for general scholarship but not really for Woodruff, but I met Ethan Rosenzweig at one of the LSAC forums and he convinced me to apply. Hopefully, we both get some of that scholarship scrilla.

Same, just above the 75ths. I'm sure we'll get some of that money ta blooow, the question is how much and when.

So guys...I'm thinking this is big news. I checked on LSN today and a girl with a listed gpa of 3.5 updated to say she was accepted. I asked if her gpa was actually beneath a 3.6 because her profile said she had altered her numbers a bit. She told me she was actually below a 3.5. This means they're finally considering people with lower gpas! Hurrah.

I'm sad that my 167/3.55 is just low enough to keep me out of the scholarship round :|

So, I tried to add an addendum to my application today via e-mail, and received a reply within 10 minutes stating that a decision letter was sent yesterday regarding my application. I was shocked at the quick reply, that actually contained some real info.

I just checked my mail but it isn't here yet. I know no one has reported being rejected on TLS.

Do you think, just maybe, this mean I am in?

You think even with the "LSDAS GPA 3.1" part?

Wait I don't get how the two could be different. Is your official, cumulative GPA a 3.1? or a 3.6?

I did not. Too difficult to find a nominator in a timely fashion ( I applied pretty late)

Very similar numbers, did not go for Woodruff.

beesknees wrote:Didn't feel entitled to money; I was just hoping for a big offer because I did favor Emory going into this cycle. While this is just more anecedotal evidence, this supports the idea that they tend to throw their big scholly money (excepting woodruffs) to kids near/slightly above their medians.

I'm going to echo beesknees on this one... Emory is close to the top of my list. If they'd offered just a little more, I might have jumped right into a "yes" decision.
edited to add that I am very thankful!

Has anyone filled out the College Board profile for Emory financial aid. It looks like it's a slightly less annoying version of Need Access.
