You're likely looking at a waitlist or a very late acceptance. You're under both medians so it's a semi-long shot. I'd advise against sending a LOCI or Why Emory or anything like that. Their website and FAQ recommends against submitting extras after you're complete, and they only accept a maximum of 2 LORs off of LSDAS. A visit might help if you can swing it, and then you can go full force with a LOCI, etc. if they do waitlist you.

I think you'll be alright. Emory touts itself as the most diverse school within the T20 and I recall a healthy amount of diversity when I visited. You might have a bit of a wait for an acceptance, but I think your chances are decent. If your GPA was closer to 3.7 I'd say you're a lock.

I'm not under their GPA...and aren't they known to like GPAs more?

Yea I figured. I talked to someone on the phone and they said they were just preparing my app for review (whatever that means). Sent my app in the first week of January as an afterthought but the more I read about it the more I want in...

Well if you've got a 3.6 and are over median then obviously the don't value GPA that much, lol. (I'm just kidding).

Their website says the 2012 median is a 3.57, so I stand corrected. Either way, you're under the LSAT median by 2 points and barely over the GPA median, so I still think it's a long shot. I'm not trying to be mean, just realistic. If you do get in, you're probably paying sticker.

I've been seriously considering Emory over higher ranked schools. But this doesn't make the price difference of going to those higher ranked schools all that much (considering $ from them). Not to say that $10-20k is nothing to sneeze at, but it isn't game-changing considering the scope of law school tuition.

+1. $1k extra a year isn't enough to justify choosing emory for me. oh well :( . i guess i could have worse problems than schools making the choice easier for me.

So true. Actually, this makes it easier to justify paying more at the higher ranked school that I thought I'd deny myself in the effort to be frugal.

169/3.7

My Mom just called -- they offered 72k. I'm pretty happy with this. An acceptance from Michigan or in-state from Texas would make things interesting.

Withdrew today! I was thinking of holding out to see if they'd offer me $$, but I've been in the South for four years and I'm ready for a change. :) Good luck, everyone!

Ehh, no... 70k isn't the yearly figure, it's the total amount over three years. 72K would pay 24K per year over three years. Tuitons like 42 per year.

In with 72k - 166 3.7. Going to be a hard decision. I'm from Los Angeles, plan on moving back after graduation, and have never even visited the south.

Right now I'm looking at similar scholarships from Emory and BU. I've noticed that Emory reports a COA much higher than BU. 197,136 compared to 171,702. Granted, tuition at Emory is ~2k more... but there is some other funny business going on. Can anyone from Atlanta or Boston comment on these figures?

Emory reports $17,748 ($1,972 per month) in Living Expenses.

BU reports $11,808 Room and Board + $2,990 Personal Expenses = $14,798

Got in today via mail. There was even a handwritten note on the letter from the dean! There was no mention of scholarship though. Did the rest of you get scholarship info with the acceptance, or was it sent separately?

I don't completely get Emory's COA...I am from the area, and yes, there are expensive places to live in Atlanta. But looking at the apartment complexes that seem to be where most of the law students live, if you're willing to live with a roommate, rent should be no more than $600/month. And even that is pushing it, IMO. I don't see where that $1972 a month is going to go, but the good thing is that the $17k should make living over the summer very easy. I think it's roughly $1475 a month when factored over 12 months instead of 9. That should still lead to pretty comfortable living in Atlanta.
