Re: Emory 2010
I got the 72 k as well. I was already basically decided on W&L, but I wanted to wait and see what emory threw my way as they have a reputation of being very generous. However, this amount is not enough to sway me from W&L, so I will be promptly withdrawing and putting my money back in the pot. Hope it goes to one of you guys!!!
Also, does anyone think they will have a problem reaching that targeted lsat median without throwing money at people like they did last year (I am not saying that 72 k is not a lot, it is just much lower then what people seemed to be getting last year.)?

What do you think my chances of admission are with 167/3.7? Thanks everyone.

Probably close to 100% unless you applied last week or something.

i'm not gonna lie, I was let down by 72k. as unrealistic as my expectations may have been, I was expecting 84 or more.

I hope Emory's slowness this cycle is mainly a product of them going paperless this year. They haven't accepted anyone below a 3.6 this year, regardless of LSAT. They are going to have to dip below 3.6 eventually. What's going on Emory?!? Hurry up!

Re: Emory 2010
Mail takes ages to get to my house, so if I'm fortunate enough to get a scholarship I probably won't know for a week or two anyway... it's a little discouraging to see that the amounts are lower than previous years though. Emory will be at/near the top of my list if they're generous with $$. Glad to see that they've started sending letters out - it's time to make some decisions!

Thanks!entrechatsix wrote:omgosh that's insane! but congrats!!!!f0bolous wrote:woohoo! emailed them and got confirmation that I'm in! evidently my acceptance package got lost in the mail last month
I also just got the scholarship info yesterday. It looks like they won't be anywhere as generous as they were last year. I got 78K last year and this year it dropped to 66K. I was kind of hoping that it would increase this year since they wanted to up their medians, but oh well... guess some money is better than no money.

Applying today w/ 166 3.87 + Above average softs
I know I shouldn't have waited this long, but my plan was BU/BC...events have caused me to strongly consider staying in the SE.
Anyone have any idea what my chances are?

Earlier in the cycle you would have been autoadmit, but this late there is no telling. Maybe attach a "why emory" to try and offset the late app?Cupidity wrote:Applying today w/ 166 3.87 + Above average softs

Got the 72k. Which will cover just over half of tuition. Say I get the full 20,000 per yr in FASFA. 60k in Fed Loans to cover tuition+(3 yrs COL in ATL)= how much debt?! And is it worth it? Opinions please!

You'll get in man, but I'm not sure I'd take Emory over Georgetown even for Atlanta.Cupidity wrote:Applying today w/ 166 3.87 + Above average softs

Meh, it's decent but if it will still leave you with about 50 to 60k in unsubsidized private loans (8%+ that adds to principal while you're in school) to cover your COL. Still a pretty big ticket, IMO.artexprt wrote:Got the 72k. Which will cover just over half of tuition. I know! That frat house job is starting to look really tempting.... I am planning on moving w/ my boyfriend. If he lands a good job down there the COL could be quite low for me actually. Thats a big IF though.thickfreakness wrote:Meh, it's decent but if it will still leave you with about 50 to 60k in unsubsidized private loans (8%+ that adds to principal while you're in school) to cover your COL. For those applying late... I sent my application in on February 4, and the decision letter was dated Feb. 12. So it is still possible to get in with good numbers applying late! Haven't heard about scholarship money yet. I was a 168/3.7.

Re: Emory 2010
so looking at LSN from previous years, it seems like people closer to emory's medians get more money than people above
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/MikeSavona/jd
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/McCoy4242/jd
vs.
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/alethe16/jd
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/kutcha/jd
http://lawschoolnumbers.com/KareemCheese/jd
You might say that they just have much steeper indifference curves than any other t30 school where minor differences in GPA matter a LOT to them. but it gets even stranger
DallasCarla 168/3.25 applied 11/04 gets 84k
vs.
mvk216 169/3.47 applied 11/06 gets 45k
WillAgai 166/3.69 gets 96k
and Cadetmtc 166/3.67 gets 96k
vs.
rdt854 168/4 gets 60k
Obviously theres reporting bias with LSN. Plus these are more anecdotal than really enough to jump to any firm conclusion, but it does start to create a bit of a sketch of their preferences. im just trying to make some sense of this. Does anyone have any idea why they might give out scholarships like this?

For those of you who have gotten scholarship offers, did any of you apply for the Woodruff scholarship?

166 and a 3.98.....I got a significant amount so I am pleased with the award. I was the first student they admitted, I guess they really like my softs because it seems my $$$ is better than some with better numbers. I have been dead set on ND but this generous offer is making me think. Not the 96k of last year but taking into account the current eco situation I think this is a great offer.

Maybe it's based on the quality of our writing and our extracurricular activities. (Just kidding. Or am I?)nyyankees wrote:Does anyone have any idea why they might give out scholarships like this?
Anyway, I pulled down $72K as well (no Woodruff app). Substantially less than what people with my numbers got last year, so it was a little disappointing. I'll still visit, probably, but I'm not sure it'll be enough to justify turning down UT Austin. Plenty o' debt either way.

In the $72k club here also. I really am hoping some more of my T14 apps will come to a close soon as well as UT. Been on hold at UT from EA since November and am starting to get worried(went to UT for undergrad but am not a TX resident).philosoraptor wrote: Anyway, I pulled down $72K as well (no Woodruff app). Also got the 72k. 168 3.9X A little disappointed because Emory is still more expensive than Texas for me.

Re: Emory 2010
Yeah they hyper-focus their merit awards around median #s. Last year 165-167 with over median GPA got the fat scholarships. I applied last cycle with a 165/4 and got a big scholarship, but I doubt I'll get much this go-round since I raised my LSAT. I really liked Emory last cycle, but I've had a sinking feeling that I'm going to get a lot less this time.nyyankees wrote:so looking at LSN from previous years, it seems like people closer to emory's medians get more money than people above
