Atlanta >>> Athens. #20 >>> #35. Field Placements, Trial Techniques Program, and First-Year Electives at Emory. And most importantly...

Atlanta >>> Athens.

+1
Also the TI:GER program appeals to me. I think Atlanta >>> Athens is huge, personally. Do not overlook the fact that you are going to be in school for 3 more years. That being said, maybe a smaller area (Athens) appeals to you.

A 2nd viewpoint: I feel -unwarranted maybe- that the student body at Emory will be more interesting/varied than at UGA. UGA Law has a TON of UGA UGs in it. Even a higher percentage of the tri-state area. (Disclaimer: This is 2nd hand anecdotes from UGA alum friends, Emory alum friends, etc.) Not only will you be 'stuck' in Atlanta or Athens for three years, you will be stuck with your classmates. I am definitely aware of this, and I do my best to con as many interesting people into Emory as possible. Nothing against UGA UGs (my fiancee's family lives near Atlanta, plenty of UGA in the family) but variety is the spice of life. Hopefully, you will be making life-long friends in school. I want my friend pool to be wide/deep/some cool stuff floating on the surface.

+1 on Tiger. I have a few friends in it. I wish i was an IP/engineer person. It is a fantastic program.

You are dead on regarding the diversity of people. A ton of "double-dawgs" at UG. I am not a big athens person myself. My fiancee lives there and works for the university so we battle about athens vs. atlanta all the time. she always loses.

Emory has quite the diverse crowd. CA, NY, GA etc. etc. I don't think the same can be said for UGA. For better or worse.

Rando, while I am thinking about it... (maximus34998 feel free)

I have the opportunity to live for ~free just outside of Atlanta. How horrible is it to commute about 45 mins to class. Is this doable -at all-? I think it is a balance of the added commute stress vs the subtracted debt stress. Either way, we are moving from Houston and will likely be living with family for a few months anyways. Time to settle, figure out where to get a place, etc. The offer for a more long term free living situation is available though.

anyone going to ASD on the 9th? Still deciding if I want to go...I want to work in DC (in all likelihood) post-graduation and am slightly worried about placement, won't have a car in Atlanta (which I've heard is nearly impossible) but I got a significant amount of money from them, so I think I'll check it out!

If you head into Emory with the intent of going to D.C. upon graduation, you have a very good chance of being able to do that. You'll have to be a little more proactive and do some networking, but I doubt you'd get shut out of D.C. with an Emory degree and a desire. If you have the option to attend a similar school closer to D.C., obviously that would be ideal. If it were me, I'd have no problem with going to Emory with an intent to work in D.C. if it meant graduating law school with a lot less debt.

Did you get into/receive money from Gtown/GWU/Mason/WL/WM? Anyone know how Emory does compared to GWU/Mason/WL/WM/American in DC?

Got into to GW and GM but no $$...RJ from Gtown...didn't apply to WL or WM. Not necessarily wanting to live in DC area now (been here my whole life) more so looking to come back to it (school doesn't have to place primarily in DC just don't want to lock myself out of that market)

Sweet, bonus!

Seriously though, because I go to Emory, ASD is a 20 min walk for me, so I might as well just go.

Leave mom behind! But if your mom insists on coming, just insist on going to the Admitted Students events alone.

Do NOT let her come, as you will probably want to meet your potential future classmates and not hang out with her. Some people brought their parents to the last one I was at, and the potential students did not look like they were having a good time.

Nothing against excited parents but I'm gonna toss in another no. By all means bring them to Atlanta to check it out with you, but don't bring mom to the event.

Alright, I'm definitely starting to think you guys are right. Time to break the news to my mom that her little girl has grown up (or has at least started to?). Haha.

Barring substantially more money at WashU or an offer off the waitlist at UT, I'll likely be joining you folks at Emory next year!

I will probably be withdrawing this week (just need to confirm that they will not negotiate their scholly offer, as seems to be the consensus here). Will be freeing up a spot and some $ for those who are still waiting.

Only loans offered here - means I'm probably not attending Emory. Not worth 4x the cost of UGA.
