Re: Emory 2010
I have been waiting for Emory since October. I really am at a loss as to why I don't have a decision yet. I'm amazed to hear that they are finished giving out merit-based aid since $$$ was the only way I was ever going to consider going. Oh well. They had the gall to email me a survey about their admissions process. I want to withdraw, but at this point I just want to stick it out and see how long this whole process takes. Overall I have been unimpressed with their handling, or lack thereof of my application. That's all, rant over.

Same thing happened to me. I called the admissions office. It means you got in!!!!chicoalto0649 wrote:are you aboyles?dusk2k2 wrote:So, I got an email inviting me to an admitted students day in DC, where I live. In the email itself, there isn't anything addressing anyone by name. But in the header, I noticed that the email is addressed to aboyles@emory.edu
Now, I'm wondering if they made a mistake sending me that email and I just got my hopes up for nothing. But how did the email get to me? There is nothing in the email header with my email address at all...

If it is true that they have given out all the available money and cannot give out anymore, including to people who want to negotiate, i.e., me, I will probably withdraw and free up some money for someone else.TheBigMediocre wrote:Probably withdrawing next week. Talked to admissions today and they said the scholarship committee has finished awarding merit-based aid. Damn shame too because with some money I would have gone to Emory in a heartbeat. No reason for me to pay just as much to go there as Vanderbilt (if I get off the WL).
I'm not sure how their system works and it's irking me a little bit. My 3.2/166 fraternity brother with nearly identical ECs got 18k/year when I'm 3.35/170 and I got squat. I look at it as their loss.

I'll clarify that it said "At this time, the scholarship..." Don't want to give misinformation, even if this might out me to anyone from Emory admissions reading the board.jman77 wrote:If it is true that they have given out all the available money and cannot give out anymore, including to people who want to negotiate, i.e., me, I will probably withdraw and free up some money for someone else.TheBigMediocre wrote:Probably withdrawing next week. So "at this time" is for now at least, maybe in the future they will change their tune.

Re: Emory 2010
accepted at emory today via big package in mail. 20k per year, which beat my offers from minnesota and wustl.
i caleld today and was disappointed to learn emory gives no need based aid, so i am on my own to fund the remaining approx 40k per year in total expenses.

Not to state the obvious but I believe that is due to the down economy (and thus endowment). In past years, 90/96k was the norm for highest scholarships outside Woodruff.Matteliszt wrote:Seems like it. 80k I think is the biggest I've seen.

I'm not a mathemagician or anything but isn't 80k more like two thirds tuition? (more than half)

Waitlisted via email two minutes ago. I don't know if I'd attend without some sort of scholarship. Any chance of receiving $ if I do get off the list?

Same here.
Given my numbers, I'm happily surprised.

Even if I happened to get off the waitlist, I don't think I would be prepared to pay at sticker. Anyone else share this sentiment?

I was waitlisted too. My numbers weren't the best & I applied at the last minute. I was pleasantly surprised. I'll probably be attending UGA since I doubt I'll get off the waitlist. I'm also not sure sticker at Emory is better than UGA's in state tuition. I'm still submitting a LOCI and extra LOR just in case.

Yes. I am probably attending the University of Washington right now, unless I get a miracle from Vandy.pantherfan wrote:Even if I happened to get off the waitlist, I don't think I would be prepared to pay at sticker. Anyone else share this sentiment?

Same. Also, late April doesn't leave enough time to consider the school, search for housing. well...it does leave enough time, but everything would be hurried. I'll be withdrawing.pantherfan wrote:Even if I happened to get off the waitlist, I don't think I would be prepared to pay at sticker. Anyone else share this sentiment?

Re: Emory 2010
Exactly my position. I would love to attend the school but it's hard to pass up $$ at similarly ranked schools. I doubt we'd get much money if we do get pulled from the WL. Anyhow, good luck to everyone.pantherfan wrote:Even if I happened to get off the waitlist, I don't think I would be prepared to pay at sticker. Anyone else share this sentiment?
