I'm not sure, whoever the woman is that always answers the phone--shes been mean since the very first day I called. The people I exchanged emails with, on the other hand, were super nice.

DITTO! Always so nasty! I dropped my deposit off in person and the lady at the desk was super nice, so I'm not sure who answers the phones in admissions..

Lol, that is funny. Really though, I doubt they have some dark closet they hide a special phone operator in, so it probably is the same woman

Did anyone attend an "insiders guide to brooklyn law" session? If so, please talk about your experience.

Is there any event that anyone recommends attending? I don't care about the tours too much. The only two events I found interesting were the "Faculty Open Doors" and the "Insiders Guide to BLS"

What do you guys think?

Does anyone know what the policy is on dropping out mid semester or after a semester in regards to the merit scholarships? Do you have to pay back the scholarships?

Did anyone get this letter that I got?
I withdrew on March 15 but they just sent a letter dated 4/20 upping my scholarship from $36,000 to $45,200. They also either offer me 3 years of guaranteed housing or guaranteed 5k living stipend each year.

SO freaking convincing. And they did it on PURPOSE after I withdrew, according to the last line "We hope you will reconsider your decision and give Brooklyn another look"

GAH.

They got me with a $10,000 scholarship increase at the end of March, but it looks like I should've held out a little longer for that stipend.

Yeah and I asked for more, did put down my deposit and haven't heard a word.. that's really comforting. They'll give out money to people who don't want their school but not to people who do. GRRRRR (This isn't angry against you btw lol but against them).

All the more reason St. John's is looking better and better.

Hey future Brooklyn 1Ls. I am trying to figure out if guaranteed housing is the way to go or if it makes sense to look on craigslist? (I think the 11.5 month lease is odd and is a bit pricier than I currently pay in midtown Manhattan)..Or if I stay on campus, but not a studio or 1BR, have any tips on meeting other new students looking for roommates?

lol me too. I think I still pick GW, but the debt is a huge (obviously) difference. It's just... I mean hopefully the debt won't last forever, but the degree of course will.

$45,200 + $5,000 per year is just about a 114% scholarship. And the strings seem perfectly reasonable...

Anytime my TLS-warped ego gnaws at me, I re-read Brooklyn's $135,600 + $15,000 offer and shake off the worry.

What are peoples' thoughts on this?

I got the same offer and was 99% sure I was not even going to attend LS next year, but they are using their money magnet and pulling me in. Also, the housing stipend seemingly only applies if you decide NOT to live in one of their dorms. Does it make sense to even do that? They said that students living "off campus" saved around $3700 whereas they are giving 5000 for off campus. It makes economic sense in that case to live off campus and take the profit (haha).

But in all seriousness does anybody know if we get any $ to help pay for their dorms? 15K (at least) is a hefty sum of money to pay, not including electricity, groceries, monthly metrocard, etc.

no, the letter said that they expected it to "nearly" cover tuition or something like that, "just about" "nearly" "not quite"...

you're a little confused. the housing stipend IS if you decide not to live in the dorms, yes. but they said that students living in campus housing save about 3700 a year because their housing costs less than the housing in the area.
but if you took that 5k and moved further away you'd save even more... if you lived in nj or something you could probably get a roommate and only spend 5k for 9 months of rent if you shopped around a bit.

I think it's a good idea for you to do. if you don't like it after a year you have literally almost nothing to lose.
