Where do Mason grads end up, if they do not either find work for big/mid law in D.C. or Nova, or the Federal Government? Are they simply strewn out across the state of Virginia working for mom and pop firms in small towns?

Talked to financial aid office. Said they mailed out some packages late last week, so hopefully we'll see them soon. Not holding my breath for any scholarship; seem to be pretty tough to get.

Sent my letter of intent last week. Applied Jan, accepted Feb. I was waiting to see what the other schools would offer in terms of $; which turned out to be not nearly enough compared to GMU. In this economy, I chose to follow the $, so GMU it is!

Yes, or the local county government. Or, they go back to their dayjob prior to law school (hopefully they had one).

just thought i'd post the grad cutoffs for the feds:

To qualify for the position, an applicant must be at the time of hire a law school graduate (J.D. or LL.B.) who possesses superior legal writing skills and meets one of the following criteria:

-Academic standing in the top one-third of his/her law school graduating class;
-Law review;
-Special honors for academic excellence in law school;
-Winning of a moot court competition or membership on the moot court team;
-Full-time or continuous participation in a legal aid program; or
-Significant summer law clerk experience.

That is from the Department of Labor (a typical, standard federal agency that recruits at Mason). The more prestigious federal agencies (e.g., USAO) obviously have higher standards. Needless to say, biglaw has higher standards as well. Hope it helps.

MY GMU status reads:

"You should expect to receive a decision letter in the mail in two to four weeks. Please note that applicants' requests for decisions via phone or e-mail will not be met.

If you have not received your decision in the mail within four weeks, please feel free to contact us.

Thank you for your interest in George Mason Law and your patience throughout the application process."

I applied REALLY late, and only went complete about a week ago. Should I assume that the speedy way they zipped through my app means i'm out?

"Postmarked on the 15th". Who else plans on mailing in their seat deposit on the 15th? Is anyone still undecided?

Don't assume anything, I'm in and that happened to me. They went through mine in less than a week, and I also applied late.

How about finding a big law job in TX?

Is anyone going to GMU right now? What do you think your prospects are for getting a good paying big law job upon graduation?

Obscure questions, but I need to decide whether to make the deposit or just wait another year and re-apply to other schools.

Those questions are answered in detail a few pages back on this thread. Good luck!

I will also have to forfeit mason... for in-state it is a steal, but the tuition + COL is just way too steep.

hey guys, just thought i'd post the latest career center stats for Mason. This is the school's most current OCI stats (taken from a handout from the career service's lecture on OCI):

-Most students don't get their jobs through fall recruiting (OCI, resume collections, off-campus programs)
-Largest firms (700+) median number of offers dropped from 30 in 2007 to 18.5 in 2008 to 8 in 2009
-In Fall 2009, only 36.4% of callback interviews resulted in an offer. (2008: 46.6%; 2007: 60%+)
-Only 3% of firms recruited for 3L students in 2009 (2008: 25%; 2007 42%)

Hope that info is helpful...

That's not good. I wonder if they are going to drop in ranking this year.
