In at Berkeley Law!
The other thread was getting pretty long...so perhaps this can be the home new for admit-related questions. Dean Tom's phone call spurts are erratic, after all, so I think it'd be courteous (and heart-healthy) to stop bumping the Berkeley 2010 thread with questions about ASW and admission packets.
Now, speaking of which, I take it no one has received their packet yet?

Feels good to join this thread. No packet for me yet. Accepted via phone call on 12/3.Tangerine Gleam wrote:The other thread was getting pretty long...so perhaps this can be the home new for admit-related questions. Hi everyone! Excited to meet y'all at ASW. Anyone know what the admissions packet looked like last year? Any goodies?

I was in Berkeley on an errand this weekend. I double-parked outside Boalt and almost went in to run down the halls, but it was nighttime and raining.
Soon, though.

Re: In at Berkeley Law!
Aren't those 2013 threads for people who decided to matriculate for sure?
How is everyone feeling about Boalt in their decision-making process? Likely accept? Waiting to hear back from someone else first?

Will be there barring HYS acceptance/serious $$ at CCN - both of which are highly unlikely.Tangerine Gleam wrote:Aren't those 2013 threads for people who decided to matriculate for sure?

Generally speaking, yes, the "Class of" threads are for people who have decided to matriculate. If and/or when you do so, here's the link to ours: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 25&t=83218Tangerine Gleam wrote:Aren't those 2013 threads for people who decided to matriculate for sure?

I'm assuming people got their call before they saw the email? Just wondering if I should expect talking to Dean Tom or not.
No packet yet. But that's because I just saw my email today
It's nice to finally have some good news!

Calls went out mainly last week. If you didn't get a call but just got an email, I wouldn't expect a call. But who cares? You're in.fidesverita wrote:I'm assuming people got their call before they saw the email? Just wondering if I should expect talking to Dean Tom or not.

In via email!
If it weren't for those tuition increases I would seriously consider them over higher ranked schools. Oh well, I think I'm going to ASW anyway. Maybe I'll fall so madly in love that I won't be able to help myself.

I'm just playin'. I don't blame you! I, too, am from the East Coast...but I've wanted the Bay for a long time, so Berk couldn't fit more nicely into that dream.humdrum wrote:what makes you think that? i just live/have family on the east coast. i imagine that if i go to Berkeley, i'll probably be working out west after grad too.Tangerine Gleam wrote:You got a kid or somethin'?humdrum wrote:I wish I could commit to Berkeley, but you are just so far away from me...

Re: In at Berkeley Law!
In via phone call 11/2, received email today.
I remember Dean Tom said something about paying to fly me out for ASW, and the email says, "I ask that you save the weekend of April 9th to come visit Berkeley for our Admitted Students Weekend. We will help defray your airfare to attend. You will find details on our website for admitted students."
Is this in everyone's emails so far?

Yes. Also, 11/2?! That's really early.discobabe wrote:In via phone call 11/2, received email today.

Definitely never heard the word "defray" before. Am I too dumb for this school?

Yeah, I definitely had a 'is that a typo?' moment. Don't tell Dean Tom. I read this in the Princeton Review Best 170 LS book and wanted to verify: Berkely doesn't give out grades? Or at least, nothing beyond "pass, fail, pass well" or something? Because that makes me like Berkeley 10x more.

Re: In at Berkeley Law!
Yep, basically. I think it's "Pass", "Honors", and "High Honors". I'm sure someone else can elaborate more...but I think most (70%?) of students in each class get a Pass.
This also affects the rankings, or lack thereof. Which is awesome, because students are less prone to compete.
I am not the competitive type. I like this all very, very much.
