My mom just called me and told me that some 'little bit elderly female' called
and said something like "nice to meet you Hyeseong(my name)."
My mom panicked since she doesn't know English and she couldn't speak anything.
And more importantly, she coulnd't catch who was calling.
(my mom said, "I think she said 'some' law")
I went crazy and checked my email but there was nothing except some spam mail.
I hope they send me email soon. :(

Received a really nice Admitted Students Binder from Columbia, following up from the acceptance package received last week. Mailed 1/28, reached me here in Asia in 10 days.

Also received a book titled "Inside New York" on the same day from Columbia (again!), sort of like a travel guide to NYC. Mailed 1/29. I'm really liking the way Columbia does these things!

Wish stuff got to me in 10 days... it tends to take anywhere from 3-10 weeks. Hmph. Really looking forward to that binder though.

@bk641 –Still no email and no phone call. I’m going nuts here. They call only when they accept us, right? I mean, they don’t have time to call me and say “What the hell were you thinking? You are just not a lawyer material. Go find some minimum wage job,” right?

@Bikeflip- No caller ID. And there is no ‘leave a message’ service in my country’s phone.

I'd rather wait a few weeks longer to have the Real, Glossy Admit Packet (what can I say, I'm a sucker for packaging/marketing) in my hands than just have my parents rifle through my mail.

...Turns out, a.) isn't always the case, and b.) might have been preferable to hearing about everyone getting decisions via snail mail while I sit here and refresh TLS over and over again while staring forlornly at my phone even though Dean Tom doesn't call international applicants and it's not like I'm getting into NYU anyways but I have three more weeks of denial/false hope than everyone else who gets rejected.

So for everyone abroad who was an idiot like me :) , and I imagine for international applicants too, let's start a thread that tracks time to actually receive the decision and the letter/packet. This will be particularly useful for those schools that do things different with international applications (like how Berkeley doesn't make international calls), and for peace of mind (or increased anxiety and thumb-twiddling, depending on your personality type) when you haven't heard anything even though everyone else and their mothers are getting letters left and right. And oh, put electronic decisions too, just so everyone knows whether to also be waiting for something in the mail later or not.

I'll start! (It's going to be really embarrassing when this doesn't catch on...)

Duke, Priority Track
Accepted via email on 10/16
Admit packet (FINALLY) received on 11/17 via what I assume was normal USPS, hence why it Took Its Sweet Time

Georgetown, RD
"Decision rendered" on status checker on 11/2
Admit letter received on 11/9 via courier (Fedex or UPS, I forget)

Michigan, RD
"Decision" on status checker on 11/14
Admit packet received on 11/17 via courier (Fedex or UPS, again I forgot)
With regard to your Michigan acceptance, were you able to log in to the status checker the day that your decision was rendered? Or do I need to wait two weeks for the UPS?

Michigan has a status checker, but also an admitted students site that you log into using the same Mich ID# you use for the status checker. Apparently the status checker only updates to "Decision" a few days after the decision is made (presumably to cut down on the freak-out time before seeing the word "Decision" and the packet actually arriving telling you what the decision was). However, the admitted students site will allow you to login if you are admitted a few days before "Decision" shows up on the status checker.

Therefore:
If you can log into the admitted students site, you're in, congrats, and your status checker should go to "Decision" a couple days later. Michigan sends the packet by courier-ed mail (DHL, I think) so it'll actually get there pretty quickly (only took me 3 days, when stuff sent via normal USPS takes 3-10 weeks).
If you can't log into the admitted students site but your status checker has gone to "Decision," then it's not lookin' so good.

Hope that helps :) Don't go crazy with the admitted students site-- I doubt they update more than once a day.

Is anyone planning on going to any ASWs?

I really want to, as a lot of things that are important to me in a law school (the other students, the school "feel," silly things like how nice the library is, etc.) aren't quantifiable or found on a website (at least not truthfully). But a plane ticket is soooo expensive...

If you are going, what specifically do you think you can learn from an ASW (or a non-ASW visit) that you can't otherwise?

If you're not going, how are you choosing between schools? And are you going to be more proactive in reaching out to a school's staff/faculty/students via phone/skype or email? Do you have suggestions for things to think about and how to find certain kinds of information?

Just wondering :)
Trying to avoid coughing up $1600, but really have to think about whether it might be worth it.

I'll definitely be attending the Michigan ASW and will probably use the same trip to visit the NYC schools (cos the ASW dates for most schools aren't next to each other).

My reasons for visiting the schools is to make sure I'm not missing out anything in making a decision. I kind of already have a top choice at the moment, but I don't want to regret my decision later, and so I thought school visits would give me some affirmation.

Also applying from here in Asia has made me feel sort of detached from the whole process. Hence I feel the ASW would give me a perspective that would be helpful before I land in the US in the fall (especially since I've never lived in the States).

I guess I'm being kind of vague here, but I just feel that it'll give me the dose of reality that I need but am not really getting, on account of being so far away. On the practical side, I hope to find out about housing options and meet potential classmates.

The ticket is definitely gonna be a huge expense, in spite of the $500 travel subsidy I have on offer from Michigan. I just think its going to be worth it, given how important this decision is. Again this is a very personal perspective, and probably does not apply to most other international applicants. Hope this helps!

I won't be going to any ASWs or visiting any schools (at least not before seat deposits are due), simply because I don't have the money. I'm moving back to the U.S. in May anyway, and I really can't afford another plane ticket before then. I'm going to have to rely on email/phone calls (Skype) and contacting people about the specific programs that I'm interested in. One thing that is good for me is that I'm interested in a very specific set of programs, so I think I will be able to get a lot of information about them that way. I wish I could go to some ASWs or visit some schools, but it's just not in the cards for me...

Why withdraw? Just leave it there. I know waiting is nerve-racking, but you already know that you have several options.

Very good reasoning. I don't have anything to loose so I will wait and see.

By the way I just applied for a loan at the Banco de Mexico, it is only 200,000 pesos a year but the financing conditions are very favorable and might come in handy for COL. The application period is almost over, but there will be two more periods later on. (Just in case you are interested)

got an invitation to NYU's ASW with a cool little map today...haven't gotten my admission package yet. I'd be super excited except that I already knew I was in from checking the admitted students website. It was sent February 5th.

CLS binder arrived today-- mailed 1/28. Two weeks, not bad.

This thing is BEAUTIFUL. Glossy. A Real Binder! [Versus, for example, Vandy's Obiter Dictum, which was awesome and chockful of useful stuff, but was plain paper and cheap binding-- not blaming them, cause it's huge and all. Just saying Vandy's the plain girl with a great personality, whereas CLS's binder is definitely the hot blonde (or whatever hair color you prefer).]

In at BU via a nice personalized email a few minutes ago. Huge relief after nearly 3 weeks of no news! Hoping another email or two will trickle in as the afternoon rolls forward in the states...

Sup y'all. I'm bumping this.

I just noticed on the UCLA thread that someone abroad got notification via email after the Dean tried to call their famblee at home. Anyone else experience this from UCLA? Does anyone know of any other schools that do one thing domestically, and another for international applicants?

Snail mail decisions are killing me up in here, especially after UPS claimed it tried to deliver an admit pack three times to me (it most certainly did not) and sent it back to the States.

I don't know about UCLA, but I've found so far that schools that usually call people domestically (BU, Chicago... okay, that might be the only two that I've actually gotten into) have just emailed me. BU sent a personalized email in lieu of a phone call which was nice, and then Chicago sent the same email it sends everyone in addition to a call-- I just didn't get a call first. Oh wait... Columbia emailed a PDF of the letter, which I know they do to abroad people, which is really nice.
