Top Law Schools

A quick question for those who applied and were accepted at Rutgers-N. Did you guys submit a personal statement? Its not listed as a requirement on the school website but I'm getting conflicting responses from some saying they require one. Can someone please confirm this? Thank you.. and good luck to you all.

I did write one, as is required:

Rutgers-Newark Application, page 6 wrote: F. Personal Essay
A personal essay is required. Please provide information or commentary that you believe will assist us in the evaluation of yourapplication (e.g. describe any life experiences that either led you to seek a career in law or that you believe would make you a more effective lawyer). If you are applying electronically, use an electronic attachment.

I understand your confusion though- it's not mentioned in the application instructions, and it took me like 5 minutes to find that quote in their ocean of an application. Good luck!

In my acceptance email it stated that "In a few days, the Applicant Status Online screen will change to one for admitted students." Has this happened for anyone yet? I still just see the application status screen.

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted so far. I'm in via e-mail today with 8k per year, contingent on a 3.0.

Me too! Congrats, everyone! And ... as a life-long New Jerseyan, I will reiterate what's already been said ... while I haven't visited the campus yet, Newark in general is not really where you want to spend 3 years of your life. I definitely recommend Hoboken (with roomies to keep your rent down) -- I've lived there for about a year and a half now and love it!

I've also been in NJ all my life and actually live only about 10 minutes from the R-N campus. The area the school is in really isn't too bad, but I will not live there. I was thinking Nutley, Clifton, or somewhere around there. Getting a scholarship for $8k should help open up some living options.

Those places are def good bets, too (and way cheaper!). I sold my car when I moved to the Boken so would need to stay somewhere with good public transportation. I'm not saying that I'd be scared for my life or anything if I lived in Newark ... but I visited Seton Hall and just found the whole area to be rather gloomy / devoid of people.

Quick question.. how is the commute to R-N from jersey city as opposed to hoboken? I'd much rather live closer to the city..and the rent in hoboken is pretty steep. Newark isn't exactly to appealing to me though..and I really want to get rid of my car, the less expenses the better.

By the way, Congrats! I'm hoping to attend R-N as well..

i hope you are kidding, but in the event that you're not...i'd like you to realize that NONE of those people are from North Jersey.

JC should take about 20 min on the path train to Newark ... the issue with taking the path though seems to be that while Seton Hall is located a super-short walk from Newark-Penn Station, Rutgers-N is a bit of a hike (again, I haven't been to RU's campus yet so can anyone confirm this?) ... I don't have a car either so that's def a bit of a concern for me, too. But JC is great and can be significantly cheaper than Hoboken, depending on the neighborhood you choose.

You can walk it. But there is also a shuttle that runs from the Law School to Penn Station. There also is a path stop not to far from the school. I worked in Newark for a few years. Born and raised in NJ.

to those that were admitted within the last few weeks (congrats) - when did your apps go complete? I've been complete since the 14th, so only about a week, but wondering if im wasting time on the status checker this soon lol

Complete 11/19, Accepted 12/03 via email. Scholarship info came via snail mail 12/09. Good luck!

Both the acceptance and scholarship information came by email (separately) about 20 minutes after my status checker changed to decision rendered (noonish yesterday)

My app. was received on Dec. 4th, I have a 3.75 (graduated from Rutgers - New Brunswick) with a 156 LSAT. How bad is this for me? It's been almost 3 weeks and no answer. This worries me because I see other people were accepted much sooner. I made it pretty clear in my application that Rutgers was my number one choice too.

App received and app under review are two very different things.
