First acceptance package in the mail today. They gave me a renewable Merit scholarship of $8000/yr.

It will be interesting to see if we're able to get in-state tuition with the new Dean taking over operations there. A long time ago, I used to live in Bergen County, but I have residency in a different state now. Paying ~$21,000/yr versus $31,000/yr is a rather significant factor in determining whether to attend Rutgers. Oh, as well as the fact that just across the Hudson all of the law schools are upwards of $40,000/yr.

Naw... He means for all years. The last two admission cycles, students going through this process kept reporting that the law school would give students in-state tuition for the first year if they signed a 12 month lease in NJ before the first year started. I am not sure if this has ever been confirmed by someone who has actually tried to do this, but people were saying the Dean at admitted student events was offering it. With a new dean, we need to find out.... It would also be good to find out that if this policy doesn't exist, if we can at least get it after first year. Maybe I will send an email and ask later, I dunno.

Sounds like sort of a ripoff for NJ taxpayers... and a little unethical in general. Hmmm... but honestly, I would still probably do it. :D

Good luck everyone.

$10,000 RENEWABLE!!! I would think your assumption is correct that the money is per year, but it does say it outright or maybe not outright, but strongly implied by the word renewable Congrats!

So is paying $50,000 total for a legal education at Rutgers- Newark a better investment than Fordham PT or Cardozo for $200,000?

Living expenses, tuition included.

Got the acceptance e-mail this afternoon. I'm not expecting a scholarship offer, but can someone who got an offer tell me if they said so in the e-mail or when the formal letter was sent?

Thanks!!

I think the consensus on this website will generally take Cardozo out of the equation and leave you with a choice of Rutgers and Fordham PT. Obviously the choice between a PT and FT program is almost entirely dependent on how you want to approach the upcoming years of your life. I don't think I would choose a PT program over a FT based on anything other than how it fits whats going in in your life... For me, since I am 21 and don't think I could get a good job to pair with a PT program, I'd lean towards a cheap FT program. If, on the other hand, you have some type of career you don't hate and can do that + a PT at a good school at Fordham, that might be best.

Yay! :D
I knew you were going to have an awesome cycle!

Rutgers sent me another fee waiver and "please apply" e-mail, so I e-mailed them back and told them I did  .

Also got accepted with an 18k renewable scholarship. The money and close proximity to home makes Rutgers- Newark a tempting choice.
