Does scholly info come via snail mail? I am pretty debt averse and Cincy is a viable option considering the metro rate. A decent scholarship would make my 1st or 2nd choice

Do any of you all think I will have any chance of picking up some scholorship loot, since I am coming from the waitlist?
UC was my top choice, then UTenn came along and accepted me and gave me a half scholly. Overall I love both schools and it will come down to who offers more money, and probably a coin flip.

Re: University of Cincinnati! Woot.
Just letting you guys know that I went to visit today and it went pretty well. The staff there is amazing and they extremely friendly and helpful. I got to go to lunch with a 1L and he basically described the experience and answered some questions. After that he showed me around the building and we got to talk with other students and staff who were equally hospitable. The campus is beautiful and I was completely blown away by how new the architecture was. The only negative I would say is the law building which seems a little out dated with some very basic classrooms. I am not from Ohio but Cincinnati seems like an active city were I can always find something to do. Overall though I was very happy with my visit and it only makes my decision harder after going there

Re: University of Cincinnati! Woot.
For those of you who received scholly, how long did it take for the scholly info to come after you received the acceptance package?
Do you think whether it's appropriate if I email them about asking about it?

I don't think they do. The GMR is from the main university and the schollys come from the law school... I think. That's just the impression I have from the Fin Aid office. Plus the law school advertised the GMR as a selling point so i doubt they would count it against your scholly.msbeautifulbasham wrote:Anyone know how the graduate metro rate affects scholarships for OOS applicants?
Anyone definitely attending UC?

99.9% sure I'm attending. I'm at what was previously my first choice now doing a campus visit and I'm not a fan. Still waiting on 3 schools but they are LONG shots (and even if I did get in I can't imagine paying sticker after Cincy's offer).firebreathingliberal wrote:I don't think they do. Re: University of Cincinnati! Woot.
I need some info here. I've been to Cinci in the summer and loved the city. The school seems like a nice fit for me.
BUT I hate cold weather. This Florida guy cringes out the thought of snow. How bad are winters in Cinci? I've never really lived up north but I dislike when it gets into the 60's in Florida (yes I know I'm a wimp). Is this something that I would get used to? I know its personal preference but would like some advice.
My other option is Tulane (no scholly). The two seem to be polar opposites
Cold Vs moderate weather
City with a suburban feel Vs Urban feel
Reasonable Vs Mega expensive
Jobs in the midwest Vs Jobs in the south
Small Vs Large school
Input?

Re: University of Cincinnati! Woot.
I have a friend who is a 3L there who is from upstate NY, like me, and she told me the winters there are really tame. They don't get much snow and when they do it shuts down the town. So the winters there are not bad at all, but the city makes snowfall a bit of a hassle. At least not for someone from the Northeast. Take my word with a grain of salt because I hate the muggy Florida climate.waverider wrote:I need some info here. I've been to Cinci in the summer and loved the city. That's about where I am. I'm struggling to make sure I make the best decision. Going over all the possible information out there. My sitch is a been complicated because Iowa and W&M waitlisted me, and I'm worried that they will call me August 1st after I've moved in to an apartment in Covington (N. Kentucky) and say to me we've accepted you, thrusting me back into a world of indecision.Dayton wrote:99.9% sure I'm attending. Re: University of Cincinnati! Woot.
I called up the financial aid office.
The lady I spoke with was extremely friendly and helpful. She told me that they are waiting to review the files of the recent admits for scholarship consideration to have a better idea of how much scholarship money they will have left. She said that they are hoping to be able to make scholarship decisions either this week or within the next two weeks.
She even told me that if I wanted I could call back on Friday and check to see if they have made a decision on my file instead of waiting it out.
She also answered some general questions I had about financial aid.
Note- Financial aid awards being sent out do not include grad plus loans right now. They are waiting to make residency classifications and will be put in on an individual basis (possibly within the next two weeks).

6500 per year scholarship
This pretty much seals the deal. I'm going to take a trip to New Orleans next week (on Tulane). Plan to send in My Cinci deposit right when I get back.
So happy this process is finally finishing up (or just about to start- depending on how you look at it).
