I'm intrigued by the shirt you said you got - I assume it actually says "Columbia Law" on it? All of the ones online just say "Columbia," which would be OK except I look sort of young and people might mistake me for a freshman at Columbia College or something. This is not the image I am trying to convey

You may think I'm kidding, but I'm dead serious
Going from the South where every(guy) was all tan and shaggy-haired cute, to a northeastern college where the male population was sorely lacking... it affects my quality of life when I can't look at pretty things

Re: IN AT COLUMBIA LAW SCHOOL!!!!!!
Hey, the signature northeastern man-look (pallid, sickly, concave chest) is an acquired taste, but don't knock it -- especially if you aspire to CLS. Although, they did explicitly mention that CLS has a ridiculous amount of Californians, if you're into the sunwashed surfer/demi-god look...whatever, poser.parker09 wrote:Hopefully! but I want someone to actually clarify this for me.maudlinstreet wrote:haha hopefully actually attractive!parker09 wrote: Are we talking actually attractive, or "law school goggles"-attractive?

And regarding true attractiveness versus the jaded prism of the VCE...forum was furreal and class was goggles at best. Which is why I suggested a sampling bias.

Re: IN AT COLUMBIA LAW SCHOOL!!!!!!
Well, I'd say that on the whole the group was above average. I also noticed this at Yale, however. I think law students may just take better care of themselves than the general population. I didn't see any obviously overweight people at either law school, for instance. Everyone was dressed nicely, no sloppy hair etc. Of course, living in California may have set the bar pretty low since everyone walks around wearing boots and a disheveled oversized t-shirt dress with their hair all messed up. Maybe I'm just easily impressed by pea-coats.parker09 wrote:Are we talking actually attractive, or "law school goggles"-attractive?rx3r wrote:I don't know, when I visited a class back in October I thought it was a rather attractive bunch.mochafury wrote: Pretty good. Regardless, I'd say if an average group gets a 5, Columbia was at least a 6 on the whole. Certainly not a bunch of supermodels, but >average attractiveness.

Okay, i'm satisfied enough. I think "above average" is as good as I'll get for law school.
Thanks for humoring, you two!

haha, as bizarre as it sounds, I randomly ran into babaghanouj (the TLS poster) at a bar last night. we had not met previously. definitely the first time I've met someone from TLS!
edit: we actually met online in the CLS facebook group, in case you were wondering why I chose this thread to post this seemingly random information.

Seriously. The Gender and Sexuality Law Clinic info was awesome, and the box is just so damn extensive. I spent 3 hours at the coffeeshop reading everything this morning.protokurios wrote:This blue box is amazing.
I'm definitely giving Columbia a lot more thought. My ASW visit is no longer just a chance to head back to NYC.

Kretzy we should talk! I met Suzanne Goldberg and Katherine Franke at a conference today and they were both amazing speakers, but also, very approachable and excited to talk about CLS with me.Kretzy wrote:Seriously. I say these should be the most important factors when deciding on a law schools. Although, some people on this thread have been rating CLSers as 6s. :/

I'm betting most of the attractive ones don't play for Team Breeder...swc65 wrote:I also hear the LGBT group has some pretty extraordinary bar crawls too! I love NYC, and plan on practicing there after graduation if I choose to work for a firm...complicates things and gives Columbia a non-zero chance of me attending (where I wouldn't have said that a month ago).

I have a request for all those willing and I am posting this in the two places where I feel it is most relevant (and hopefully will get responses).
Is anyone willing to critique my Columbia LOCI? If so, I would be beyond grateful for any assistance.

I'm still waiting on U of C before I make a final decision. I live in Chicago, so I'm torn between wanting to stay here with my friends & family and moving to NYC to try something new...swc65 wrote:have you decided on CLS for sure?blue5385 wrote:I can finally post in this thread!!! Posted this in the wrong Columbia thread:
I submitted my FAFSA already and I'm working on my NeedAccess Form now. Do we need to send actual copies of our (our parents) 2009 income tax forms to the Columbia financial aid office by March 1st? An answer to this question would be GREATLY appreciated!

I just called to see if they'd gotten my financial aid questionnaire, and the woman went ahead and checked everything else and said they were still missing my tax forms (which I already knew, since I hadn't submitted them yet)... so yeah, apparently they want them. (She was really nice about it though... you can mail, fax, or email them... she recommended against emailing since there's personal info on there, but I'm abroad, so...)
