Impressive.

From my own experience Melanie Nutt is one of the most open and student friendly admissions director. If she made any sort of mistake I am sure she regrets it. I am friend of a Wake law grad who has told me nothing but good things about her, and this must be true since there is even a scholarship set up with her name. In my experience Mrs. Nutt (and all of the Wake Forest admissions team) helpfulness is outstanding and only rivaled by that of Dean Pless another famous admissions dean (and constant TLSer).

Thank God there's a silver lining: we're all still "eiligible" for scholarships.

Well I was already offered 30K/year but I turned it down after 3 minutes and asked to be considered for scholarships in a month.

Well I was already offered 30K/year but I turned it down after 3 minutes and asked to be considered for scholarships in a month.

My scholarship cant be increased anymore I just hope I can get my loan approved to pay for COL and make my deposit as soon as possible.

WFU admissions office is easily the best i've dealt with out of the 10 schools I've dealth with.


plus, '09 stats flying around TLS indicate that WFU is on the up and up employment wise--relative to general economic down-turn (they beat out UNC in both njl250 placement and clerkship hiring).

Really? After spending years on building credentials, countless hours on apps, months on studying for the LSAT, we can get rejected for .1 point of a gpa, or a typo, or 1 LSAT point, but we shouldn't be mad about the same if done by a "sweet, older lady?" I think you're dumb.

Dear Mrs. Nutt,

I appreciate your apology for this travesty. The emotions i felt when I opened up that email were unlike anything I have felt before. I need 35k/yr to be able to consider Wake Forest, so you can imagine who distraught I was when I read I was only awarded 30k! I will continue to look forward to my silver lining.

haha. yeah, that damage control email, while sincere, wasn't very good. thankfully i read the "error" message before I read the actual email, so the damage for me was averted.

I'm just glad I was sleeping when that email was sent out. 30k and i would have been calling everyone telling them i'm going to wake.

That was an unfortunate mistake regarding the emails. However, I will also add that the staff at wake are the friendliest I have dealt with thus far. They really are so genuine, and I can imagine that Melanie probably felt terrible about the mistake.

I would encourage everyone considering the school to pay a visit. Their charm goes a long way.

Although I think this was a colossal mistake, it will pass, just like all mistakes. For some it may take longer to get over, but in my case, I opened my email and saw the scholarship email and the email right above it saying ERROR, so I really didn't have time to get my hopes up or be upset. And like numerous people have alluded to, WFU admissions is absolutely the most cordial and helpful staff of any admissions office I've ever talked to. Yes, we're held to a high standard clerically when we apply, but also, software programs do not fill out our applications for us and send them off (at least we hope not lol). That being said, I strongly believe many people will be singing a different tune post-April 1st.

Haha, I was too belligerent over the word eligible to even notice it was spelled wrong.... sad. Apparently this "software" doesn't have a spell check?

As someone who actually attends Wake, I agree that if something like that would sway your decision, you're just being silly. And honestly I'd probably be glad that you weren't actually attending here if you can't understand that in the real world mistakes are made, and you have to pick yourself up and move on. The staff is incredible here and everyone makes mistakes.

To be honest, I'm sure there are tons of mistakes made on applications (even wrong names in places), and I think for the most part the admissions staff looks at the entire person and their whole body of work instead of focusing in on a single mistake. As someone who has experienced this firsthand, Wake does not reject people because they have 1 less point on the LSAT or .1 less on their GPA or even a single typo. I really feel that Wake wants quality students that they can believe in over numbers. Of course some of those quality students have higher numbers, but there are just as many quality students who's numbers are lower but showed their desire to be at Wake.

Your anger is understandable, but isn't Wake the highest ranking school which admitted you? Withdrawing because of an administrative mistake seems like an over reaction.

My personal statement to Wake Forest ended by stressing my desire to attend another University. I called the admissions office, they fixed it, told me its just a mistake, admitted me and offered me a full scholarship. Yes, mistakes do happen to all of us and I believe we cant be to strict about them.

Fans of Wake (perhaps the fandom is heavily dented after yesterday's little fiasco)...

Assuming the ERROR e-mail does not follow, I also got an 18k scholarship from Wake just now.

I think I'm going to be in Chapel Hill this fall, and have always planned to be so. But I need to at least consider my options with a clear mind, so I want to be "sold" on Wake a little bit to at least know I've given it a full look. I am 90% sure I will be in North Carolina to start my career, but desire a level of mobility/flexibility depending on where my husband's career takes him. I'm attracted to the idea of doing biggish law for awhile (and seriously interested in litigation right now) but have deep roots in public interest and at least a lingering curiosity about academia. Basically I'm fairly certain and content that (if I'm lucky in a crap economy) I'll be practicing at a midsize firm in Raleigh or Charlotte in a few years, maybe opening a solo practice down the road, and quite happy ... but want to be able to explore other options and fates.

So, now that the prices are equal - what about Wake?
