I'm seriously considering deferring for a year and moving to Colorado to gain residency and the in-state tuition for 1L. Anyone else? Is this even possible?

I had given this some thought. I have no firsthand knowledge, but the impression I get from other threads is that schools are hesitant to give deferrals unless you need one more year to eradicate malaria.martin024 wrote:I'm seriously considering deferring for a year and moving to Colorado to gain residency and the in-state tuition for 1L. I think the extra year with a law degree would probably cover the $10,500 difference, so I wouldn't take a year off for that reason alone. Maybe if you think the extra year would let the economy recover a bit more, though...martin024 wrote:I'm seriously considering deferring for a year and moving to Colorado to gain residency and the in-state tuition for 1L. Well, I doubt that extra year would mean much in terms of the economy, but I'm planning on doing PI, so the extra 10 grand might be nice. The idea of networking a bit in a state I've never even been to, and learning how to snowboard before LS seems tempting though.Neil wrote:I think the extra year with a law degree would probably cover the $10,500 difference, so I wouldn't take a year off for that reason alone. Definitely can't argue with that.martin024 wrote:Well, I doubt that extra year would mean much in terms of the economy, but I'm planning on doing PI, so the extra 10 grand might be nice. Let us know how it goes, although I can't imagine it being anything less than amazing.adora wrote:I'm visiting on Monday! Sitting in on a Criminal Law course...so excited!
Do you plan on taking any pictures of the campus? If so, if you could post them on here some time that would be awesome!

Still nothing on scholarships for anyone? They told me "on the verge of sending it out" 10 days ago.

So sorry if this has already been answered, but have we decided how easy it is to get in state tuition after the first year? I'm from NC and was surprised when I got admitted, but I know almost nothing about CU and can only realistically attend if I get some $$$ (super unlikely) or if it's somewhat easy to get in state tuition.

It is extremely easy. You'll need to register your car (if you have one), register to vote, get a CO drivers license, and file a CO return. But it's easy.lml09 wrote:So sorry if this has already been answered, but have we decided how easy it is to get in state tuition after the first year? Thanks! I saw on the website that students may get in state tuition after 12 months, but as we are all well versed in crazy logic, we know that means nothing.rekopter wrote:It is extremely easy. My decision just got a lot harder.... last I heard people were pretty down on employment prospects...any new news?

Law students are pretty down everywhere. Do you know where you want to practice after you graduate? Colorado places well in Colorado and in the Mountain West.lml09 wrote:...last I heard people were pretty down on employment prospects...any new news?

Has anyone received any more information about the admitted students days? I booked my flight and stuff a few days after I got my acceptance letter, but I still have yet to receive more details about the dates, which are now only a few weeks away.

They seemed to be more pessimistic than other students from different schools. For example, the students I talked to at Wake Forest and UNC were pretty upbeat and optimistic and said that the majority still had good jobs but the person I talked to at CU said she knew very few people who had a decent job lined up. This may have been an exaggeration and I clearly talked to the wrong person (she wasn't really happy about anything...) but it still worried me some.
I would probably want to stay in Colorado. I've lived in NC my entire life and have only been to Colorado once, but I think I'm ready for a change in scenery.

Nope, but the other schools whose ASDs I went to didn't send info out until 3 days-a week before, so no worries.
