I just called the financial aid office, and the woman who answered said for the $3,000 year work study, students usually work 8-10 hours a week. Can someone confirm or deny this? If it's a max of 10 hours, I think that's manageable for the first year, right? Any thoughts?! Would appreciate input, cause I gotta mail in the form before April 15 with a decision!!

Obviously the lsat score will work against you but with a high gpa and some decent work experience, you never know. I find that these schools are a bit of a disappointment, I had pretty stellar work/legal experience and it didn't seem to resonate if my numbers weren't in the median.

NICE! Congrats! You've been waiting a long time for some good news! :D

thanks burger. my fiance and I will be visiting next week (we cant make it to ASD). Can you spare some wisdom about where to stay/eat/visit while in hartford? It will be our spring break (we work at a high school) and the soon-to-be mrs. wants to make a 'vacation' out of it. We have never been to NE before. You can PM me or reply here.

Actually, I can't really recommend anything specific, since I'm from a small town about an hour and a half outside of Hartford and I haven't really spent any time staying/eating/visiting there!

Since it's your first trip to NE, I do recommend that you see some of our more natural assets, like our hills, forests, and coasts. Maybe make a day trip of driving down to Mystic? It isn't quite lobster roll season, but you will probably get your New England fix. :) Congrats again!

I'm not Burger, but I stayed at the Fairfield Inn Mariott in Manchester and was quite pleased. Hartford is only 5 or 6 minutes down the road, and it's a nice area. Lots of places to eat. I think it was like $75 a night?

As Burger said, Mystic is incredible and one of my favorite places on Earth.

Mystic is fun. Definitely check out the aquarium. Also, some pretty nice hotels there are wicked cheap because they try to compete for the casino (mohegan sun/foxwoods) crowds, although they're 20 minutes away. I stayed in the Hyatt Place in Mystic for under $100 bucks/night. I think the Hilton is similarly priced. That's a lot of hotel for not a whole lot of money!

And if you go to Mystic, you might want to check out the casinos since everyone seems to do that. I'm not a big casino person or really I should clarify, I have NEVER been to a casino, but my sister and her friends live in that area and seem to go all the time, mainly for the bars, restaurants, and entertainment. As for staying at the casions, they're outrageously priced. I like the Mystic Hilton. You might want to check out the Litchfield Hills area for the fun of it, there's not tons of stuff to do, but it's a very nice area and probably the best representation of 'New England', Washington Depot, Litchfield, etc. If you like to eat, my favorite restaurant is also in that area of CT, Good News Cafe in Woodbury CT, less expensive but still good, West Street Grill in Litchfield and GW's in Washington Depot. And really, you kind of have to go to Greenwich and Westport . . . It's a small state so you can really see quite a bit of it if you want to make a trip of it.

thanks for all the input. we will probably only spend two days in CT - one in new haven visiting a friend at yale, and one in hartford. then i think we will drive up to boston and spend a couple days there. thats the tentative plan for now. im currently talking to someone in admissions to set up a tour and sit in on a class. fun stuff.

did anyone else get a Dean's Scholar offer? I got 10k but the way the letter makes it sound, its a one time 10k, rather than it being every year. can anyone confirm?

also, does anyone know if these scholarships are negotiable..? or should i just be happy w/ what I get? I'm 80% down on uconn at this point.

Your scholarship is NOT renewable. It's a one-time thing. You can try to negotiate, too. Good luck!

Does anyone here know much about Uconn waitlist? I thought I read somewhere that they didn't take anyone off the waitlist last year but was curious if anyone knew anything more. I only applied to day division and got waitlisted. I'm a CT resident 158 3.75. Guess the CT residency doesn't carry a whole lot of weight.

Anyone apply at the mid-end of January and hear yet? They are my #1 (right by my office... I'd go PT if I stay in state) but NADA.

I got my financial letter yesterday detailing the total costs of uconn, and the type of loans I am eligible for. If I were to get a scholarship, would that come in a different letter from the financial aid office? I was just recently admitted earlier in the week and most people have said scholarship offers have come weeks later, but im nervous that since no scholarship was mentioned on the financial letter that I will not be receiving one. I was really hoping for in-state my first year.

I don't want to crush your dreams, but for what it's worth, my financial aid letter included my scholarship in the details of total cost/loan eligibility. The letter notifying me that I had been awarded a scholarship came first. It still might not mean anything though- since you were admitted so recently and since deadlines are approaching they might have just wanted to send you your loan/grant info as soon as possible.

Remember, there are still people out there who are hoarding scholarships and haven't yet withdrawn. There's still hope! :D

Ya, I wont over-think it too much right now, but I might ask next week when I visit. Im going to expect nothing, and if I get a scholarship, great.

btw burger, I like the new custom 'tar.
