UConn waiting thread

Post by Burger in a can » Fri Nov 20, 2009 2:08 am

I am excited to hear from UConn! It's not the highest ranked school I applied to, but I think it might be my first or second choice. The campus is beautiful, UConn has some of the best job placement in New England, and I'm exclusively interested in public interest law, meaning I won't be making bucket loads of money to pay off huge loans, so the CT resident tuition at UConn is very attractive!

I was planning on applying but that depends on who I hear back from within the next few weeks.

I applied on 11/07 and don't think I'm complete yet (I think I'm missing my Dean's Certification). I went to an prospective student open house there last weekend and everyone was really nice, it certainly seems like there are many worse places to spend three years. They seem to be pretty stringent about first year in-state tuition though (I grew up in CT, vote in CT, and have a CT license, but apparently I still qualify as out of state).

I couldnt have been more polite and they had to be convinced to check my file to see what was going on. She was so rude and finished the conversation by saying "Yeah, so start checking that" referring to my email. HOLY SHIT I am definitely not going to UConn anymore!
Haha If all it takes for you to decide against UConn is one rude office worker, you probably didn't want to be there that badly to begin with!

School has been a hassle lol. I had to send my deans cert about 3 times since they lost it. UConn is a safety but in state tuition is tempting for me!

According to LSN, it looks like there was a small wave of acceptances with scholly $$$ in November last year, from the 21st through 24th, and then nothing until January. Since nobody has reported anything yet, I guess we're all waiting until after the new year?

Does anyone know if they let you know your application is complete, or do I need to call and verify that my undergrad sent in their Certification?

Yeah, they email you when you're complete. They were really quick with me too- I applied on November 9th, they notified me that they received it on the 18th, and I went complete on the 19th.

It's not them I am worried about, it's my undergrad registrar's office.

Um, ok, but you asked whether UConn notifies you when you go complete. Sorry for offering too much information. :?

I was notified fairly early too, I sent mine in on 10/21 and received a complete e-mail on 10/22. Also I spoke with someone in admissions who said that they will not start looking at applications until Jan. 15th....so we will probably be waiting for awhile.

I meant it's not UConn's speed I am worried about.

Damn. I guess those November admits last cycle weren't relevant. Thanks for the info.

Dear UConn,

I know you're not even reading applications yet, but I just need to talk. Having paid very close attention to the forming cycles at my reach/high target schools, I have completely lost faith in them. Please, UConn, I'm sorry I applied to higher-ranked schools than you, but I promise I will proudly attend if accepted. I will even wash that big weird sculpture on your lawn. PLEASE!!!!

Love always,

Burger

I looked at last year, and it seems the bulk of decisions went out on 02/09.

I really don't want to wait that long, but my "complete" email said they will start reviewing apps in January.

I really, really, really want an affirmative from them. I feel the need to flee Texas for good and embrace my Yankee-ness.

Yes...Come to the dark side. :) I commute to Hartford once a week for work, and I can see the "steeple" of UConn Law peeking over the treetops when I'm driving on I-84, taunting me from afar.

I got a weird email from UConn yesterday. They have a status checker all of a sudden?

Yes Mr. Burger! I can't say I'm thrilled to hear they are beginning their review process late Jan.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
