msch0i wrote:Visited the campus and met with the assistant director of admissions. Everyone was very nice and the school and its staff sound much better than I'd ever expected. I learned a lot--if you're interested you can PM me for details. It's really just an elaboration of what's already been discussed in this thread in the past (job prospects, admission criteria, etc), but just verified by someone from the school. I don't want to bore all of you with my ramblings :)

But one exciting thing he told me is that they haven't sent out the bulk of their acceptances yet. They're waiting until the deadline to see who's out there and making a majority of their decisions after that. I think he also mentioned that they would be pretty much sending out all of their decisions by March

hey... this is exactly what i've been saying. that they're probably waiting until the deadline to see their entire applicant pool before making mass decisions!

cool...

has anyone visited the graduate housing (or is currently attending Irvine and know about the graduate housing)?

please share insights... particularly if you know anything about Palo Verde vs. Verano Place.

I go to UCI whatever you do choose palo verde over verano...its way nicer, newer, and the people are more fun. Verano is good if you want a familial atmosphere.

Regarding graduate student housing: Does anyone know how difficult it is to get a place after the guaranteed housing application deadline? Is is tough to get a place off the waitlist? Anyone heard anything or are their any current 1Ls with this experience?
I saw that one has to send in the SIR before applying by the March 3rd deadline.
So, since I am anxiously waiting for a few other schools, I cant see how I'll decide before the deadline.
Any thoughts?

Irvine's way of saying if we ain't your first choice, you gotta find your own housing?

OMG! OMG! Received a call from Dean Ortiz this morning. I am in!!!!! I am so excited by this - I have just been giddy since the phone call. It's going to be tough for another school to top Irvine at 50%. The small class size and the location are both very appealing to me. TY Irvine for making my day and my month and my year so far!!!! Woot!!

Does anyone remember if you manually input your LSAT/GPA on the electronic app? Maybe Irvine's also waiting for those paper LSAC reports to verify late applicants' GPAs/LSATs. Who knows

im guessing they've just begun categorizing all the applicants into numbers. they will want to maintain their medians and will most likely be based on that. most likely next week or the week after will be when the real mass of acceptances start. either that or early to mid march.

For those accepted, when is the deadline to submit the SIR and the deposit due date?

You'll be fine in terms of housing. I work at UCI Housing and typically we have enough spots for graduate students that we should be able to accommodate you. Everyone's talking about PV or Verano Place, but in reality the nicest graduate housing is in Puerta del Sol (BRAND new this year)...plus its within walking distance to albertsons, the law school, and the gym.

I am bummed that I was so negligent and didn't look past the schools with traditional prestige. The program seems perfect for me.
