How troublesome is it to have a hotel near the airport when touring the university region (cab fare, etc)?
Any good sushi joints (all u can eat preferred)?
Sports bar with cheap beer near the DT?
Cab fare may be expensive from the airport.. I suggest that you try a hotel near DT or the school when visiting... if you are visiting during the week, you can nab a nice hotel (i.e. wyndham by the school) for $50-60 a night.. goto priceline and "name your price"..lol.. it actually works...
the other questions Im not too sure about yet... near the school, I have been to "fuel and fuddle" (decent food, cheap beer) and hemingways (cheap beer)...GL
The airport is a ways from Pittsburgh itself. Cabs can be pretty expensive. However, the Allegheny Transit Authority has a bus that runs from the airport itself into downtown & oakland called the 28X. If you got to the ATA website, I'm sure it'll talk about the cost of the trip (it's free to Pitt students.. so I have no clue).
Sushi Boat is pretty good. There are honestly like a million places to eat in Oakland within walking distance from the lawschool and about 3000000 bars like Hem's or Gene's in Oakland.

I've never visited the city before, although I do have a ton of family in Philly (far away, I know). The more I look into Pitt, the better it really looks and I am now really intrigued. Anyone want to sell me on why I need to leave South Florida to head up to Pitt? Before I received the acceptance from Pitt I was planning on going to Miami but I'm not 100% sold on UM.
I'm originally from North Florida and moved up to Pitt. However, I wanted to move north because I hate the humidity of Florida. The snow in Pittsburgh isn't as bad as other places in the north, and it's amazing to actually have four seasons. Plus, people are just way nicer than Jacksonville (where I'm from). The town is really nice. Mass transit is fantastic. The school is pretty great, as well. =)

I am renting from Lobos this year. I don't have any pets, but if they are bad about anything else I will get out after 1L. They seemed very nice when I spoke with them and went to their office. They even accomodated me when I flat out didnt have enough money in my account to put down all of the deposit (they just let me pay the rest later and signed me onto the lease right then).

I feel like they were saying "OH GOD, WE GOT ONE, DON'T LET HIM SLIP AWAY. HE MAY FIND OUT WE ARE HORRIBLE."

Has anyone received any information in the mail or emails about the 2nd seat deposit? I live abroad so it takes a long time for letters to get here.

On the grad plus form, is there anything about a computer loan? I saw an extra form on the Pitt website for such a thing, but I'd rather just factor it into my original request rather than asking for an increase over the summer. I want to get my new computer now!

The stuff that I got said that if you want to do it by credit card, to call them and they'd do it over the phone. While you may not want to pursue the credit option, this probably means that you don't necessarily NEED the form.

i had a hard time deciding and ended up declining admission. i am thinking about e-mailing to ask if.. a month after the deposit deadline now, they might still let me pay the deposit so that i might be able to have time to come visit the school. does it seem likely they will allow this?

I would imagine it just depends on how many people deposited this year. Also if your stats are above a median i could see that helping. It's worth a shot.

Seven Springs is closest, it's like a 45 minute drive from town. Snowshoe in WV and Holiday Valley in NY aren't too far away though.

For those of us without a Facebook account, is there anything particularly important/interesting that is being posted in the Pitt group that I'm missing out on?

I don't think you're missing anything critical, but the discussion has certainly shifted to the facebook page.
If you create a facebook page just to participate in the discussion, I won't make fun of you for not having any friends

It seems like most people have just been going with Craigslist. If you want more information, go to page 37 of this thread, there's some discussion of leasing companies.
Also, you should join the facebook group. Most of the Pitt discussion has moved over there.

is anybody else thinking of attending with absolutely no prior experience or ties with Pittsburgh? I'm a little worried about this as it does not seem like a common thing to do for law school, but at the same time feel like I need a big change.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
