Loyola LA - Has anyone heard back? Forum

Are many of you from L.A.? Have you seen the campus? it looks pretty nice on the site, but I have also heard mixed reviews about the campus itself and its location.

What do you all think if you live nearby or have visited?

I've been on campus a few times. The surrounding area is not nice, it is run down, but it's not like there are shady people on each corner selling drugs. From the outside, you see the parking structure that blends in w/ the surroundings, but once inside, the campus is amazing. There is tight security, manicured lawns, well maintained buildings, etc. The campus is very modern/contemporary w/ bright colors. I liked it a lot; it was like an oasis in the middle of a run down area of downtown LA.

I like LLS. Of course some of that may or may not be due to the fact that I may or may not have gone to Loyola Marymount for undergrad. Maybe.

Who knows? I could just be a huge fan of Frank Gehry.

Well, this will tell my cycle - if I get in here, and especially with decent $$$, that may be my final spot.

Anyone else here think Loyola will climb to 40's due to UCLA's tuiton increase. Just a few years back, UCLA was 20K/yr, now avging instate 45$ish/yr. I think a lot of the lower end UCLAers who get no $$$ can be wooed by $$$ from Loyola now. That's a really big change, to have had a top school that was half price in town suddenly become the most expensive.

Anyway, rankings don't mean much. Hoping this is a good round for all who just went DR...

Anyone get a thing from Loyola with 3 mini brochures, and a letter talking about their program, and encouraging you to visit the campus? I havent heard anything from them since I applied, so I was wondering why they sent this to me. Anyone get something similar? I had already done a campus tour and signed up to be a "Loyola VIP" before I applied, but the letter gave me a new login and password, different from the one I had before I applied.

Same here. I'll try to negotiate up and see what needs-based aid I'm given before I make the final decision.

In today, decent schol offer, prob same as you all got, not huge, not horrible. For me I am very stoked because at least there is one solid option where I can stay right where I am living and not go 200K into debt and get good placement in town, and a crack at BigLaw if I do well. The schol can prob be negotiated later on, especially if accepts come from USC, etc. Today is a big relief, now anything else that comes is gravy...

Just to put it in perspective/the effect of LSAT scores, last year I applied to Loyola PT, and didn't hear til late Feb, when I got in with no $$$. So to be in this early to the full-time prog with $$$ is pretty cool... thank you PowerScore.

UMN offered me slightly more $$ than Loyola and with better terms. Should I negotiate now or later after I have more offers?

So I applied to Loyola the same day as Pepperdine (mid Dec.) and have already gotten a decision and scholarship offer from Pepperdine. My Loyola status checker just says "Complete" at the bottom, is that all it ever says, or is it updated...it looks different from every other status checker I have.

I got a confusing mailing from Loyola about how “I’ve seen the viewbook, seen the website…etc” and that I should come visit the campus. This letter was dated 1/12.

This makes no sense to me as I:

1. Applied on the day applications were able to be submitted (around October)
2. Visited the campus in Late October (flew in from the Midwest)
3. Have emailed them multiple times regarding the status of my application.

As far as I am concerned, they don’t need to “sell” me on their school anymore. Please just let me know if I have been accepted or not. Did anyone else get this mailing? Do you know what the purpose of it was?
