Re: THE Ohio State University 2013
Back from Open House:
As a preface, I did have the opportunity to sit in on a CivPro class earlier today (PM me if you want to know who) and feel that is a better indicator of what it will actually be like to attend Moritz than any open house you could attend. With that being said the class was very cool. I came into the class ten minutes early and the whole room was buzzing with chatter like it was a high school. Everyone was extremely friendly and seemed genuinely eager for class to start. Prof. X was very engaging and I guess is one of their stud faculty members for good reasons; in other words, he was on top of his stuff and was fascinating to listen to. After class I had the opportunity to talk to a few 1ls and no one was upset with their decision to attend OSU, in fact everyone was super happy (we'll see if this is true come Spring, but I think it will).
I think the open house was more geared towards kids who were clueless/didnt start the app process. Naturally, since I'm a TLSer nothing they said was new. I did talk to a few student after and the 2ls/3ls acknowledge the job market is tough but they know a good number of kids who have fared alright with the job search. Once again they gave rave reviews for profs/ said the graded legal writing was challenging but really helpful. FWIW, this wasz all off the record so I think all the students I talked to were sincere.
I was also impressed that the Asst. Dean of Admissions, Kathy Northern, waited until everyone left the building to leave. She spent a good 30-40 mins answering a bunch of different questions. I really liked how laid back and approachable she was
Overall, this day just further reinforced that moritz would be a great school to attend if all else fails (3,3/ 163 URM, so I do have some top 20 hopes).
PM with any other ?s!
Sorry abt the choppy grammar- I'm at the gym/ typing on my bberry. #^_^#

Submitted 11/1. Wasn't expecting to hear anything until December, but now that people are getting decisions, I'm getting antsy.

I received a fee waiver to Ohio State and although I don't know a ton about the school, it looks to be pretty decent so I think i'll throw 'em an app. Who knows what'll happen!

Re: THE Ohio State University 2013
Received a congratulatory call today from Kathy Northern, who is the Associate Dean for Admissions. She was very nice and helpful, and was able to give me some additional information. She informed me that this year was the earliest they had every given out decisions, and that financial aid and any other information won't be sent out until January. I didn't have many other questions, but I plan on attending their admitted students event in the near future. Anyone else get a call?

For those of you who have been accepted, for how long did your status checker say you were under review?
I sent my application in on 11/13 and on 11/16 the status checker said "file completed, under review." I'll be surprised if I'm seriously under review already!

Funny thing, when I was talking to Kathy Northern (Asst. Dean of admissions) she basically said that she can read applications anytime, anywhere, and also there are certain applicants she will admit, or deny, on her own without having been reviewed by anyone else. Guess being an asst. dean of admissions is the bees knees.

Then maybe she is reading mine this very second! When I spoke with her she told me that she reads every single PS that they receive.

I was RD. I think the status checker switched to under review that about a week after they received my app. and remained that way until I was accepted. Hope that helps.

Congrats to those who got in. I'm applying to Moritz myself after the Dec LSAT. My undergrad GPA is 3.2 so I guess I need to do really good on the LSAT...

You don't have to do really good, but it will definitely help.07ggfa5 wrote:Congrats to those who got in. I'm applying to Moritz myself after the Dec LSAT. My undergrad GPA is 3.2 so I guess I need to do really good on the LSAT...

Re: THE Ohio State University 2013
3.2 is below their 25% GPA (3.36) so I was thinking I'd need to do better than their 75% LSAT (164) to have a realistic chance.superflush wrote:You don't have to do really good, but it will definitely help.07ggfa5 wrote:Congrats to those who got in. So my standard of 'good' is something above 164 lol.... which is pretty low for TLS standards I suppose but I'm only scoring in the 160-165 range on the preptests.

Based on lawschoolnumbers.com, it looks like you're about right with thinking 164 as a minimum, although seems like 163 mightttt be ok. Good luck (and don't measure your LSAT by TLS standards)!
